Hi

I'm new around here but it seems to be the place for Win 8 issues!
My machine is crashing frequently with nothing at all in the event viewer to help my tack down the cause.
I have run your tool on the machine and attached the .zip.
I hope you can help me. thanks.

Hi

Please read instructions from the below link and set Windows to write "small memory dump" in the event of a crash.

Set MiniDump

Hopefully your system will save dumps inside "C:\Windows\Minidump" folder. Once you got two or more blue screen, copy and attach the dumps with next reply.

Hi Anshad

Thanks for the reply. I've had around 70 freezes so far with no BSOD or dumps so I guess it's unlikely that I will get any going forward. Was the information submitted not enough to give any pointers to the cause of the problem?

I have already started to reinstall on a new hdd, so I wont be spending too much time in the one that frequently freezes. It would be nice to find out the cause but getting some work done this week is more important!!

Hi

I am never good at interpreting event logger messages but some system events points to a possible disk issue.

I/O operation at this logical block is retried several times. If i am not mistaken, there might be bad sectors in the surface. So installing to another hard drive is a good idea.

I would do a "Memtest" also.

Hi Anshad

This machine quite often has clients hdd's attached to get an image or recovery data and as those dates are 10 months old I'm not sure they have too much to do with my current issue.
I have run memtest86 with no fault found plus the new OS has been stable for 48hours now, and i'm guessing bad memory would affect both operating systems. thanks again for the help. my old OS is still here if any further developments happen :)

The old OS used to just hang all time. It got worse after installing 8.1
It never gave a BSOD, it would just freeze and nothing would be in the event logs after a reboot to give me any clue on what the issue was.
