    New MSI GT70 random BSOD's

    I have a new GT70 2OD 058au (less than 2 weeks old).
    I ran updates the day I received the computer which included updating to Windows 8.1. I have been getting BSODs randomly most days since I got the computer, sometimes with different codes and while doing different tasks.
    I have updated all the drivers I can through Windows (have not done firmware, Bios or the F6 IRST)

    If anyone could help me with why this might be happening it would be greatly appreciated.

    Im hoping it is something that can be fixed without having to send the computer away for warranty.

    Thanks in advance.

    Your BSOD issue seems to be probably caused by akw8x64.sys- "Bigfoot Killer series" WiFi adapter driver.

    BugCheck 139, {3, ffffd000259fbdd0, ffffd000259fbd28, 0}
    *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for akw8x64.sys
    *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for akw8x64.sys
    Probably caused by : akw8x64.sys ( akw8x64+2660c9 )
    Please uninstall Bigfoot killer LAN , WLAN and Bluetooth drivers and associated softwares completely from "Control Panel --> Programs" first. Then download and install the latest version from the below link (it's a combined package of LAN, WLAN and Bluetooth drivers).

    MSI Global ? Download Center

    After updating the drivers, follow instructions from the below link and disable the "Killer service" from your system.

    Hi again,

    All was running well for a couple of weeks, however the last few days I have had another couple of crashes. Any chance you would be able to take a look for me? Curious if its all related or something new.

    New crash dump blames Win32k.sys as the reason behind the crashes.

    BugCheck 1E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff800fdadcd04, 1, 4}
    *** WARNING: Unable to verify checksum for win32k.sys
    Probably caused by : memory_corruption
    "Win32k.sys" is the low level windows system file which interacts with graphic hardware. If we inspect the raw call stack of the thread, we can see both "Intel" and "Nvidia" driver activities.

    fffff800`ff6ba178 fffff800`02cfd6d8Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\igdkmd64.sys, Win32 error 0n2*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for igdkmd64.sys

    So assume the crash happened when the system is doing some graphic related tasks, probably gaming.

    Please follow instructions from the below link and set your dedicated graphics card as the preferred graphic processor (steps 1 to 8).

    Changing graphics card settings to use your dedicated GPU on a Windows computer. | Serato Video Support |

    On step 7, add all your game executable and set "High Performance Nvidia Processor" as the preferred graphic processor for all games.

    Thanks for the reply,

    Happy to see its not the old issue reappearing. Interesting its to do with the graphics. Have not got any games on the computer at the moment. By memory the crashes have happened just while using firefox, the most recent definitely was.
    I have not updated any drivers since posting here last, working with the if it aint broke dont fix it idea. However I have left the Nvidia drivers auto update (thinking they would remain stable). Do you think I should revert back to Nvidia driver on the MSI website, or is it not due to the driver version. Alternatively is this a common thing that Nvidia and Intel come across with the dual graphics and is likely to be fixed with each of their next updates?

    Thanks again for helping out.

    Flash player is known to use GPU based hardware acceleration so the crash might be happened when a flash video was played or loaded on the browser. Please set Nvidia GPU as the preferred graphics processor for firefox in "Nvidia Control Panel" as described in the tutorial.

    This hybrid graphics system used in modern laptops is a headache in most cases. Some apps may try to use "Intel VGA" instead of the dedicated GPU and may cause a crash. That is why i recommended to set "Nvidia GPU" as the preferred processor for all apps. Before re-installing the driver, try the recommended settings from the tutorial in my previous post. Let us see how the system works after that.

    I confirm exact same problem. Freshinstalled windows 8.1 and all drivers. Almost every time i ran 3dmark 11 i had BSOD. After reinstalling Killer LAN and disabling this service no BSOD yet. Ran 3dmark 11 5 times and seems OK. I sent my GT70 to msi warranty also but came back and still same fault. But i think they tested it with Windows 8 not 8.1. When i got it back it had windows 8 with all this bloatware. Freshinstalled straight away. Ran 3dmark in 8 though and it was ok. After freshinstalling 8.1 started having BSOD.
