Hi guys I'm at my wits end here. This BSOD first happened after I 'choked' the power supply during a freeze or hang. Now everytime i turn on the laptop it takes around 10mins. It boots then BSOD, then automatic restart before working fine again.

I've tried device verifier, diagnostics for the hdd. Apparently ntoskrnl is something to do with memory but don't quote me on that. I don't know very much.

I've uploaded some minidump files which I hope are helpful.

Hi

Your BSOD issue seems to be caused by outdated "Intel storage controller" driver.

Code:
>[ 16, 2] 0 e1 fffffa8004402050 00000000 fffff8010e5b6830-fffffa800934e2c0 Success Error Cancel pending *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for iaStorA.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for[COLOR=#ff0000][B] iaStorA.sys[/B][/COLOR]
 \Driver\iaStorA nt!PopRequestCompletion
            Args: 00051100 00000001 00000001 00000002

Please download and install the latest version of "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" driver from the below link.

Let us know whether it helped you.

Thanks Anshad. Still slower than it used to be on start-up but no BSOD so we'll call that a success. Thanks again!

Hi

Unfortunately the new zip file doesn't contain any crash dump files. Have you run "Disc Cleanup" or "CCleaner" ?. If yes, force the system to crash by hibernating and upload the newly generated dump file. If not, open "C:\Windows\Minidump" folder and check whether there is any crash dump files can be seen (.dmp).

Hi again,

I've attached the minidump from earlier today. It was the only one in the minidump folder. Thanks for your help!

Hi

New dump also shows the same bugcheck and blames iaStorA.sys as the reason.

Code:
>[ 16, 2] 0 e1 ffffe00001088050 00000000 fffff80229316fa0-ffffe00005414160 Success Error Cancel pending *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for[COLOR=#ff0000][B] iaStorA.sys[/B][/COLOR]
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for iaStorA.sys
 \Driver\iaStorA nt!PopRequestCompletion
            Args: 00051100 00000001 00000001 00000002

 [ 0, 0] 0 0 00000000 00000000 00000000-ffffe00005414160

But the driver seems to be updated correctly.

Code:
Loaded symbol image file: iaStorA.sys Image path: iaStorA.sys
    Image name: iaStorA.sys

    Timestamp: [COLOR=#ff0000][B]Fri Aug 02 07:09:52 2013[/B][/COLOR] (51FB0DE8)

Your laptop Asus K56CA seems to be an Ultrabook which uses a small SSD drive as a cache between the system and hard drive to speed up startup and resuming. It is kind of setup similar to "RAID 0" and called as "Rapid Start Technology".

What is Intel® Rapid Start Technology? | Intel® Developer Zone

I have seen several issues with it like the one you are experiencing. Please try the below steps.

1. Update system BIOS.

Download and update the latest BIOS from the below link. Update utility can also downloaded from there.

K56CA - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS

2. Make sure power plan is set to "Balanced".

Power Plan Settings - Change - Windows 7 Help Forums

3. Update "Intel Rapid Start Technology".

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/co...staller_3.0.0.1053.zip&lang=eng&Dwnldid=21612

If the above steps can't solve the issue, we may need to disable "Rapid start" as a test. If the issue remains, download and run "Minitoolbox" from the below link.

MiniToolBox Download

Run the tool and select only the below items.

List last 10 Event viewer errors
List installed program
List users, partition and memory size

List Minidumps

Now click "Go" and attach the "result.txt" with the next reply.

Hi

Please try disabling the "Rapid Start Technology". Please follow the below steps.

1. Uninstall currently installed "storage drivers".

First uninstall Intel(R) Rapid Start Technology (Version: 2.1.0.1002) and then Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (Version: 12.8.0.1016).

2. Reboot the system and install latest Intel chipset driver. This will install a non RAID version of the driver.

3. Set power plan to balanced.

Power Plan Settings - Change - Windows 7 Help Forums

If the issue remains, we can try default Windows storage driver Msahci.sys.

Unfortunately the problem is still ongoing. ASUS support have advised me to just perform a factory reset. I appreciate all of your help but I think I'm going to throw in the towel.
