Hi guys! I have an old HP laptop - 4 years old.

I've changed the HDD to an SDD - worked as a charm whole summer with windows 8 installed. Then the problem started. I recieve atleast 5 random Bsods every start up. After a reboot into safe mode and then a normal restart the laptop seems to work just fine, so it seems like it's driver related.

Im pretty used to troubleshoot windows but now it has come to and end. I updated all my drivers and removed some sketchy ones, didn't work. Tried to reinstall windows 7 to see if there was some kind of compability problems, but no use. Then i tried to search for hardware related problem such as SDD failure and RAM-failure. They passed all tests i could find. Ran Mem-test for about 16h(!)h. I'm getting some RAM from a friend to test this weekend just to be sure that the RAM is fine.

So, now i'm currently on a fresh windows 8.1 installation with nothing installed but chrome and windows debugg kit. I really need help with this one. Every time i restart, shut down, hibernate, sleep i will get loads of bsods before it runs nicelly, really really weird. Maybe time to buy a new comp...

I've attached the log.

Thanks!

Hi

There are event log errors indicating Windows is failing to write crash dumps occasionaly.
Code:
Event[13]: Log Name: System
  Source: volmgr
  Date: 2013-10-26T03:53:36.619
  Event ID: 46
  Task: N/A
  Level: Error
  Opcode: N/A
  Keyword: Classic
  User: N/A
  User Name: N/A
  Computer: windows-qkpshts
  Description:
Crash dump initialization failed!

Usually this is an indication of some storage related issues. I would update the SSD firmware to the latest version before doing any other steps. Some models of solid state drives are famous for buggy firmware which might cause hangs, freeze and BSOD. If you are having difficulty finding the update, please post the exact make and model of your SSD in next reply.

Also run a memory diagnostic using the freeware tool Memtest86+.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Help Forums

Run at least seven or more passes (preferably overnight) and report whether it detect any errors.

Hi!

Thanks for the fast answer.

I got the OCZ agility 3. Read about it and it seems it's not the most stable disk, unfortunately. But i've always been sure to have the latest firmware, in this case 2.25.

I ran the Memtest86+ over the night. It passed without errors. So, next test might be to change to my old HDD and try if i get the same errors? Then it might be the ssd.

Or is there some kind of other test i can do to stress test the ssd? Or is it time to run the verifier to check out each driver?

Hi

A majority of the crash dumps are SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) but none of them blames any third party drivers as the reason. Since John Carrona (aka "Usasma") is pretty busy to look at the dumps, let us try updating the old drivers first. Please download and install the below drivers.

Intel Chipset driver : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/co...=Intel®+Chipset+Software+Installation+Utility

ATI display driver : http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util.exe

Run the tool and it will auto detect and download the correct driver for your model.

Also make sure the page file is set to automatically managed by Windows.

If the issue remains after updating the drivers, enable Driver Verifier after carefully reading instructions from the below link.

Ah okay.

Oh i forgot to tell you. I can't, for some unknown reason, not upgrade my ATI display driver. When i try to install the software you gave me (Tried before this problem occured) it won't work because of "failures occured during installation" and nothing more.

The chipset installed okay. Havn't tested to reboot from safe mode yet though...

My pagefile is set to automatically manage by windows. So i guess ill start playing around with driver verifier :) I will notice how it goes.

Thanks for your time!
