    DCOM errors when upgrading to Windows 8.1

    DCOM error:

    The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}
    and APPID
    {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}
    to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    The server {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    What could be causing this? Under Windows 8 it was fine. This happens every time I restart the computer and when automatic maintenance runs.

    The first event is linked to the Immersive Shell, i.e. the ''Modern'' start screen. I see that myself, and I haven't found a cause yet. I'll keep looking.

    Just FYI -
    Unless there's a problem that I can't solve - I ignore the DCOM errors/warnings

    I get the DCOM error with the Immersive Shell when using startisback, start8 doesn't give me this error. However I don't see any misbehavior so I just ignore this error.

    Seems an error related also to Bing Weather.

    Interesting since I'm using Start8 as well and getting the error.

    No start8 here, and I get that error. I hereby solemnly proclaim start8 innocent of this crime against Immersive Shell..

    I also have a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 on another partition and don't get this or other errors. I believe that the update process from 8 to 8.1 is full of bugs. I also had to reinstall many applications and two of them now are always crashing, but they work on the other installation.

    Yep, this is why today I'm taking the plunge. Reformat and fresh install Windows 8.1. My whole computer screwed up from upgrading to Windows 8 to 8.1.
