DCOM errors when upgrading to Windows 8.1

  1. #21

FWIW I just "caught" Automatic Maintenance causing 2 Errors both 10010 DistributedCOM. You are probably right, tbo2903 - there are a lot of issues waiting to be fixed in Windows 8.1. I am already crazy and paranoic, I don't need MS adding to that.

After Googling around, it appears it is next to impossible to disable Automatic Maintenance - and if it were, it's probably not a good idea to do so. So....LIVE WITH IT! DCOM errors are Microsoft's gift to Windows 8.1 users - lol!

I got this response from Microsoft Community providing, you are not having any problems other then the errors.

""These Event errors are meaningless for the computer end user.

They are only useful for the software developer when optimizing the software programs they are developing

These timing issues are measured in Milliseconds (1 / 1,000) of a second)

You can safely ignore these errors.""

Strange getting those DCOM errors even with skydrive task disabled? So far I haven't one had DCOM error since I disabled the skydrive task.

    Maybe this is the solution:

    1. Open gpedit.msc, Local computer policy->Administrative Templates->Windows Components-> OneDrive.
    2. Set the first option "Save documents to OneDrive by default" from "Not configured" to "Disabled".
    3. Set the second option" Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage" to "Enabled".
    4. Reboot and recheck the system event viewer, is the error gone?

I think maybe some system applications DO SAVE TO OneDrive or check OneDrive before the second option takes effect.

    Dual boot - Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit

I have the same second set of recurring Error messages:

The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

The server {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

But I would prefer to find a fix that does NOT involve disabling future OneDrive access - I know I'll forget how I did the above and will never be able to get back to reverse it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.
