First of all sorry for not using the BSOD Posting Instructions -__-;
I couldn't even get to my desktop to do so...

Here is the full information of my Blue Screen, any thoughts/help appreciated.

Recovery
Your PC needs to be Repaired
The operating System couldnt be loaded because of a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\SmartDefragDriver.sys

Error Code: 0xc0000185

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installations media, if youdon't have any installation media (like a disc or usb device), contact your system administrator or PC Manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for start up setting
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings
__________________________________________

Now I've tried all the safe modes and options in the Start Up Menu, same results.
I'm able to access the UEFI, but not sure how that is of any use... ; __;
At this point I was willing to follow some tutorials and guides I found about DVD booting.
But my main problem is I don't have my Windows 8 disc, it came pre-installed with the laptop.
And I should know better, but never got around to backing up the Laptop either... (c ; __;)p Fail on my part.
Now as for Data, if it's lost I'll live, it's fairly a new laptop a few months old.

My current last resort is to find a way to copy a Win.ISO off the this laptop
burn it to a disk, and try to do a recovery in that way... <-- Bad Idea? o_O

- The previous owner who I am in contact with has no disc either, or warrenty of any sort.

Extra Info:
OS: Windows 8 64x
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 3520
service tag: 2J15DV1
express code: 5504352877
SmartDefrag is an IObit program that well obviously defrags the hard drive o_O;
Its meant to do it even better then the default Defrag process that comes with Ultimate Advance System Care 6
Ive used it before with out a problem, what went wrong I couldn't tell you if I tried.

- Last time it was functional?
I had put the laptop down, I was just watching Family guy in Media Player while some files were downloading.
I picked it up, a black screen occured, I assumed I hit the power button accidentally entering sleep mode.
After pressing the power button again with no results, I held it down forcing a shut down.
upon powering up, I saw a black screen with the Dell Logo (this is normal) but then I recieved the Blue Screen.

My guess I was at full HDD capacity and whatever I downloaded pushed the hard drive over.. >.>;
Or something else, because for a week or so the laptop has frozen up randomly, I just run ASC6 error repairs.
Then it's back to normal and I go on with my business, but with in a day the errors accumilate again o_O;
I've done Mal-byte scans, and found no virus or mal ware... I don't know whats going on.

- Contact Information
I will check this thread every 30 to 60 minutes as possible.
I'm usually very busy & on the go so if you need me to reply ASAP.

If your recovery partition is in-tact, you may not need the ISO; however, it sounds like you may have already tried this procedure but just to be sure, see here:

Technical Support Squad: Dell Inspiron - How to factory Reset

Yeah I did, but no repair option is available, I get options 1 to 9 only.

- 1 Enable Debugging
- 2 Enable Boot Loggin
- 3 Enable Low Resolution Video
- 4 Enable Safe Mode
- 5 Enable Safe mode with Net
- 6 Enable Safe mode with Command Prompt
- 7 Disable Driver Signature Enforcment
- 8 Disable Early Launch Anti Malware protection
- 9 Disable automatic restart after failure

Thanks for trying though o: any other ideas?

Did you previously do a clean install which may have overwritten the Dell partition structure?

This is direct from Dell. Now where (specifcally) are your failing? Please be detailed.

To restore your computer to the original factory installation, follow these steps:
Turn on the computer, after the Dell logo press F8 key repeatedly until the
Advanced Boot Options menu (Advanced Startup Options).

In Advanced Boot Options, highlight Repair Your Computer and press Enter.

Click Next and logon to the administrator account in the computer.

Click Dell DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup and DataSafe Options.

Choose Restore without preserving new or changed file. Click Next to continue.

Choose Yes and click Next to continue.

Progress status will appear. Click Restart to initiate the restoration process.

Did you perhaps miss the Logon requirement?

I did tap F8, but it's ignored until the blue screen appears.
Then F8 triggers the Startup Setting, which is a 8/F8 option in the blue screen.
During the Dell logo, sometimes a bar loads, sometimes it doesnt.
During the time the bar loads an option to use F12 occurs.

Edit: I never did a clean install, Though I would not know if it has been done by the store etc.

Out of curiousity I hit F12 ran a Pre-Boot System Assessment o_O
Everything got a green check box (meaning they are functioning i believe)
Except my hard disk, it simply had a blue circle that then turned into a red circle with a white X
(hope it's not saying the hard drive damaged..)

Not at this time but it sure sounds like your hard drive may be going south. However, since your recovery partition may have already been corrupted, I see no issues in trying what you are doing right now. In fact, that was going to be my very next suggestion but you beat me to it! Moreover, you will now have recovery tools available from the ISO that you can use to do further testing if the 8.1 preview fails to install (due to a hardware failure). Sounds like you are on the right track to me. Let us know how you are progressing and good luck!

UPDATE: Just make sure you do the clean install which involves deleting all existing partitions and taking the hard drive down to 100% unallocated. Then, simply click NEXT and the Win installer will build the proper partition structure for you. However, if you ever want to return to a Dell factory partition structure, you will need to order those disks directly from Dell.

Will do, it'll be another 4 hours before it finishes downloading. (Slow Net ; _ ; )
So once it's done, I'll post my results c:

The reason I'm trying so hard, is cause the laptop is'nt 100% mines.
It's sorta shared until I eventually get my own, or repair my desktop.
The true owner said I can keep it, but it don't feel right to keep it o.o
So at the very least, use it as needed then return it as given o: in due time.

But thanks again, reading your post assures me I'm doing the right think.
Cause honestly I'm guessing via process of elimination o.o

Ok, just got home, burnt the Win8 Consumer Preview ISO to a DVD using PowerISO.
Then I went into UEFI settings, in Boot Priority I put DVD as 1st.
When I saved and restarted, same blue screen...

I'm out of ideas completely now... ;_;

I should of done this sooner, but I'm going to remove the battery and hold power for 30 seconds.
See if anything changes.

Atre you sure you were attempting to boot from the DVD? Could you hear it trying to read the disc? Sometimes all you need to do is select the one-time boot option from the boot menu. This avoids having to make a permanent change as you described. I really though you might be able to (at least) get a visual when booting from that ISO. I didn't think the hard drive would be in full play at that time because it sure isn't when you are trying to install to a blank hard drive. Maybe you have an issue with the RAM? Does your rig have more than one module? If so, could you try running on one module at a time?

Yeah heard the disc running, it even allowed me to select it as the first boot option.
But once Dell logo appears its back to the same Blue Screen
and I only did this cause pressing 2/F2 at the blue screen for the 1 time boot logging wasn't working either.

I'm going to have to assume (I hate assuming ._. ) that it's the hard drive o_O

What brings me to this conclusion is on another thread on here someone posted that Error Code as being Hard Disk cord being faulty or disconnected... o_O not sure if that's correct or not.
But a friend of mines said sometimes the laptops she works on just need have power supply or hard drive tested.
Another said most times with laptops a small bump or shake can set the hard drive loose... o_O

So my next step is to pop it open, and remove and place the hard drive back in o_o sound good?

As for modules, I don't know...

OK then, I'm out of ideas. Sure it sounds like the hard drive is the obvious suspect but I don;t get the blue screen when booting from the installation disc. Give it a go and good luck. I can't think of anythiny else so maybe someone else will step in and help your further. Cheers.

Pardon me for butting in, but I thought this might help:
- bootable Hard Drive diagnostics: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure (just go ahead and use the Seagate Seatools test)
You may have to turn off Secure Boot and enable "Legacy" mode or something similar in the UEFI to get it to boot.
- bootable Memory diagnostics: Memory Diagnostics

The initial error was 0xc0000185 - which is "
STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR "
This error is either (in general):
- the CD/DVD drive
- the hard drive
- the CD/DVD media
- the file system on the hard drive
- the connections between the drive (either CD/DVD or hard drive) and the computer.
Most times there isn't an issue with the connections - and if there is, it's readily detectable when you check them (in a laptop only.

I would contact Dell and ask them for a bootable copy of Win8 on CD/DVD.
Be nice as, on rare occasions, I've seen them send the disks for free. If not, there'll be a small charge for them
Here's how to get them in the USA: Order Recovery Discs (USA)

This is strong evidence that the hard drive is dead/dying:
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N S2X1JA0CB37020 short self test unsuccessful
One or more errors were detects .__.
The bootable hard drive diagnostic (using the long/extended test) will help to confirm this.

Since you mentioned the hard drive being full, it's possible that a seriously overfull hard drive may not be able to boot to Windows.
One thing to try would be a bootable Linux distribution - or the Ultimate Boot CD (or similar tool). You may be able to check the hard drive and see if there's anything that you can see on it. If so, carefully delete enough stuff to free up 10% free space on the hard drive (don't delete anything that you don't know what it is - and only delete things that you know that are safe to delete).

Just FYI - a 500 gB SATA 2½" hard drive will run you between $45 and $70 online
You're probably going to need one - but it's a lot cheaper than a new laptop!

Just responding to show I acknowledge your post.
Just haven't checked back, due to schedule and was going with Hard Ware solutions.
That is until two screws wouldn't come out.. so that idea's on hold until I find my other tools
or go buy new ones.

So instead I'll try these new options from Usasma, see what happens.
And thanks for the price range on Hard disks o: if it is the hard drive I hope I find one under 50.
Really got no cash to spare at this time ;__; every penny goes to bills!

I'll post my results within the next few hours, thanks again you two!

Morning, I just started to look over guides and such for using Ultimate Boot CD

Good news is, my hard drive passed the tests, it's connected and working (YAY)
Bad news is, it will still not work (meh figures)
But I;m now typing to you from the very same Laptop, using Parted Magic.
So thanks Usasma! for the Ultimate Boot CD idea.

- So my current plan is too based on my understanding of the UBCD
It was installed onto the ram, so now using Parted Magic I plan to clone the HHD to my portable 1.3 TG o_O
Then erase the HDD using they're tools, i'll try erasing to factory setting, if that don't work I'll completely erase it.
Then reinstall the drivers & utilities, OS etc, calling Dell for the disks today.

- What I want to do, with the help of others or guidance!
(im at the Parted magic site reading up but...)
Does anyone here know how to "browse" my hdd through Parted Magic
So that I can select and delete files as Usasma recommended?
I see HHD editors, but can't understand them, this is where I'd need a step by step guide ; __;

What I'd like to be able to do is go into the HDD and delete say like a 10gb + game or something.
Like SKyrim or Resident Evil6, probably skyrim since it's modded and over 30gGB now... >.>
That would hopefully free up enough space to at least be able to let the HDD function properly I'd hope ; _ ;
However, from what I think I've been reading, my hard drives already been completely erased o_O (I hope not, but if is oh well)
In some of the programs that scan the HDD's health it says the HDD has 465GB free??? o_o but how? and it's total is 500.11GB

- Edit: Ok I really need a guide for editing the content in the HDD or I;ll have to erase it
Cause my external HDD i'm willing to use is only 300GB, and the one I wanted to use is 1.3TB
But it says it will overwrite the HDD data over all my Eternals Data.. (big no no) I don't want to lose what I have on the 1.3TB
So unless there is a way for me to add the copy of my HDD to my External with out over writing stuff.. Im kinda screwed.

Specs:

My 1.3TB is a toshiba external hard drive that I use like a flash drive. (Drag & drop/copied files)
It has over 900gb free still, and the rest of it is all media Pics/Docs/Games/Music/Video etc

MY 300GB external HDD I'm willing to transfer over to the 1.3TB Eternal HDD, so that the 300GB external HDD is empty for use with anything o_O if this helps.. in any way.

So, after all is said and done, that tells me you probably didn't burn the Win 8.1 ISO correctly and; therefore, it was not being recognized at boot and you were flying right past it into a Windows Blue Screen from the corrupted hard drive. You might want to go back and review your steps on how you created that Win 8.1 ISO because that should have worked also. No doubts about it. Just wanted to throw in my2cents and now I'll leave you to work with usasma. Good luck.
