Hi guys!

I was hoping someone could help me solve my BSOD's which has been more and more frequent.

The problem usually occurs when resuming from sleep or hibernation and running on battery (practically every time), but I have seen the error on other occasions as well.

My rig:
Dell XPS l502x
Windows 8 Pro x64
i7 2630QM CPU
GeForce GT 525M GPU
Intell HD Graphics 3000
8 GB DDR3 1333 RAM

Please reply if you can help or if I need to include any further info.

The latest version of the display driver, that is the 320.49 WHQL is problematic in cases. Install the NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL only.

  • Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
    • 3D Vision Control Driver
    • 3D Vision Driver
    • Graphics Driver
    • HD Audio Driver
    • PhysX
    • nvidia Update
  • Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
  • Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable!

  • Opt for "Advanced Mode" and uninstall the software (also delete the leftover registry entries).

Dell Quickset seems to have done the trick

I have:

  • Downgraded my Nvidia drivers to 314.22.
  • Uninstalled "NetGear ReadyNAS/Leaf Networks Network Adapter" (though the driver still seems to be present)
  • Uninstalled "Tungle"
  • Uninstalled "Dell Wireless HSPA Mini-Card" (no upgrade)
  • Updated "Intel Management Engine Interface" with the latest available from Dell.com.
  • Uninstalled "Integreted webcam"
  • Upgraded "Realtek PCI/PCIe Adapters" with latest from Realtek

None of it worked though, as I could reproduce the BSOD by making a hybrid shutdown of windows 8, removing the power cord from the machine and do a hybrid boot the battery. I suspect the problem has something to to with the hybrid boot option on windows 8, as a cold restart usually fixes it.

Finally I installed Dell Quickset (which I haven't really found a use for before), and that actually seems to have affected the problem. I have been able to hybrid boot on battery several times now without BSODs. I have also gotten one BSOD, but that was a Bad Pool Header.

Dell seems to have made some custom adjustments to the power options of Windows 8 through Quickset. So maybe it actually makes sense, that the program needs to be present.

Thank you again for your help. I will try to report back, if the problem returns.
