I added a SSD to my system (samsung 840 pro). It worked fine for like 2 days.. Then suddenly now everytime i hit shutdown in my windows 8 it shows shutting down for 2 sec and then screen goes off but the system keeps on running for another 5 mins after which i get a BSOD. And this happens everytime but there is a twist.. when i press restart.. it shuts down perfectly and restarts without any problem.. I cant seem to solve this issue.. here is the screen shot of the error i get on startup after a BSOD Screenshot by Lightshot
thanx in advance

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

Outdated Razer drivers are known to cause BSOD's. Please update them to the latest, Win8 compatible version IMMEDIATELY!

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Dumps show that CoreTemp was updated (but still are older) - but not Razer.
Please uninstall the Razer software and remove the Razer device from your system (use a regular mouse temporarily in order to test).

Remove Adobe Reader - it's 2008 driver sure can't be helping you!

BWMeter is still there also, please ensure that it's also completely removed

Update USB 3.0 controller drivers also - there are 2012 versions available on the web for Win8 (can't recall where just now)

You also must update the Intel Management Engine for Win8. I recall seeing a Windows Update for this a while ago - but also check the Intel Download Center.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Well I was trying to update my bios when I bricked it .. My motherboard came back just 2 hours back.. I tried doing everything you told me to.. i updated adobe.. Removed the Razer drivers.. Updated USB 3 driver , Realtek PCI, updated power ISO along with core temp and BWmeter... But still same issue.. When I click shutdown.. My PC takes forever to shut down and it is followed by a blue screen.. Also.. 1 out of 15 times my bootup time is like 5 secs.. But other times its around 20 secs.. Can anyone tell me why this is happening even after i installed one of the best SSD's (samsung ssd pro series).
attaching the latest dump report here...

I've been working on BSOD's since about 2005/2006 and have found that they are very, very tricky.
Most of what we do is based on assumptions and on the odds of having a certain problem - there's no 100% certain diagnostic tool or fix. Even when we "fix" a BSOD problem - it usually involves waiting several weeks just to be sure that it is "fixed".

That being said, the average BSOD topic that I work on goes for 2 pages before it's settled. Some will go for 4 or 5 pages. The point here is that these things require patience. I'll continue to work on this until it's either fixed - or until you give up. The process here is: we do some stuff, we wait to see if it BSOD's, if it does BSOD then we do some more stuff, then we wait some more to see if it BSOD's - etc, etc, etc

Most of the symptoms that you describe can be attributed to the hard drive/SSD or it's storage controllers.
I would first suggest that you run Driver Verifier according to these directions: Driver Verifier Settings

Uninstall iTunes - then install the latest version availablefrom the iTunes website.
Uninstall all Adobe products. Reinstall after the system has been stabilized.
Uninstall all Razer products. Physically remove them from the system and use standard devices while testing. Feel free to reinstall after the system has been stabilized
Uninstall CoreTemp. Reinstall after the system has been stabilized.
Uninstall MSI LiveUpdate. Reinstall after the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

It's really inspiring to see your dedication towards helping others. I would like to thank you for the hard work you are putting in to solve the problems of people like me here :)
Now coming back to the issue.. i did as you told me to.. Removed all those programs.. Tried to update Intel ME but got this error Screenshot by Lightshot
But to my great surprise... The shut down issue is solved now :) ( at least for now )
I really can't understand why it even existed in the first place.. I have been using these same sets of softwares for ages.. And the only thing that has changed is my primary hard drive , now its a samsung ssd...
So now only one issue left.. The windows updates keep on failing..
Screenshot by Lightshot
I am also attaching the latest dumps.
P.S- i forgot to mention that like 1 out of 10 times my pc starts up blazing fast.. Within 5-6 Sec (a fresh startup.. Not from hibernation or sleep ) but other times it takes around 12-15 secs to start up.. Why is that so..? It's completely random.. I installed no software or anything to increase the startup load..
And once again .. Keep up the great work..

Since the latest dumps date from 10/31 and earlier, I presume that you're not suffering from BSOD's any longer.
If so, please disregard the suggestions in this post as they're based on conditions that existed on 10/31

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Intel ME problem - probably not a problem if the BSOD's have stopped

Windows Updates are a very tricky problem and require even more work than BSOD analysis.
I'd suggest posting over in the Windows Updates forum: Windows Updates & Activation - Windows 8 Forums

The startup issues should be addressed after the Windows Updates. I'll have a go at it and if I can't figure it out I'll refer you to the hardware forums.

i posted in the windows updates forum as you told me(http://www.eightforums.com/windows-...errors-while-updating-windows.html#post302714).. It seems this problem wont be solved soon as there are many many people with same problem as mine who are waiting for a reply from like 5-6 days..
You only work with BSOD's ? Cant you help me resolve this issue too ? And yah.. about the starup thing.. i dont think its really that important to update to get the startup speed.. what do you say?

I when I looked into learning about Windows Updates it required even more time than BSOD's - so I passed on that.
As for the startup, should you choose not to do the updates first, then I'd suggest that you post over in the General forums for assistance with the startup problem.

I'm sorry but I just can't afford to spend the time chasing problems like this when there are many, many folks with BSOD issues that are going unanswered.

Well its kinda disappointing that there are so many problems in windows whereas people who use mac never face problems regarding silly issues such as the OS update!
i'll mark this issue as solved now as the BSOD is gone
thank you so much for helping me out.. :)

Macs also have problems. And the resources for solving them are less common than those for Windows.
On last Saturday I couldn't install OS X Lion on a system because It wouldn't download the OS X updates!

But the point here isn't about Macs vs PC's - rather it's about the OS's being complicated - so updates that don't work are complicated to fix.

My solution for update problems - be it Windows or OS X - is to backup your data, wipe the hard drive, and install the OS "clean" (without any extra junk, with all Windows Updates, and with the latest available compatible drivers).

Also, Windows Update issues aren't just caused by Microsoft. Last week I put a new hard drive in a Vista machine, reinstalled the OS, and couldn't install Windows Updates. It turns out that the problem was that the Intel storage controller drivers weren't capable of handling the Advanced Format drive. Installing a later version of the Intel RST software fixed this problem and we were then able to install Windows Updates.
