    Regular BSODs

Hi guys, hoping you can help me with this.

I have been experiencing regular BSODs at a rate of about one per 2-3 days. The time at which they occur seem random - whether the PC is idle or running games seems to have no particular effect.

I've run the Windows Memory Diagnostic as well as Memtest and both came out clean. As far as I can tell, my RAM voltage and configuration also seem fine. My CPU temperature does not exceed 65 degrees at full load.

Attached are my last five BSODs.

    Thanks a lot

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
    1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
    2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.
Out of 5 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
    - borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
    - BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
    - overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
    - compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
    - low-level driver problems
    - or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

If you still have Daemon Tools installed - please do this:
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [S] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/S] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
    Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help
MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

    Hi usasma, thanks for replying.

While I'm working on drivers, how would I go about checking if they are still on my computer?

In most cases you just look for them in C:\Windows\System32\drivers (BUT DO NOT MESS WITH ANYTHING IN THIS FOLDER!!! - IT CAN MAKE YOUR SYSTEM UNBOOTABLE!!!)

I don't worry about looking for them tho' - I just wait and see if they pop up in the next memory dump (much easier that way).

I'm not sure what to do about the drivers you highlighted. All the related programs I could think of (Realtek/Creative Audio and Logitech) were already up to date prior to my original post. I've now removed them but the drivers are still present.

So I don't actually know why they are there, what they are related to, and what to do about them.

Updated drivers aren't simply an issue of older versus newer - or of particular dates/times. It's a complicated mix that I try to make a little easier by using dates (so it's not always 100% accurate). For example, I rarely see errors from the Logitech SetPoint Keyboard software, so I'm comfortable with not updating/removing this driver for now:
    LGBusEnum.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009 (4B0B38B0)
    Logitech Keyboard
    http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LGBusEnum.sys
But I'm not comfortable with the others, so please follow the suggestions:

Update Realtek audio drivers from here (accept the agreement and proceed to the next page where the drivers are): Realtek

Uninstall Logitech Wingman/GamePanel software temporarily. Feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8 compatible version once the system has been stabilized.

Then we wait for further BSOD's.
If you get them, just zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and upload it with your next post.

The point I was trying to make is that I have already updated Realtek audio drivers (version R2.71 for 64-bit Win8) and that I don't have Logitech Wingman/GamePanel software installed on my PC (nor had I intentionally installed them to begin with). The only Logitech software I ever installed was the Logitech Gaming Software, which I uninstalled yesterday - but all of the drivers you flagged are still present.

Being present and loading into memory are 2 different things.
That's why I suggest waiting until the next BSOD to see if they're present in the memory dump.

If they are, I can give instructions to safely remove them - but it's better to see if they're gone normally than it is to manually remove them.

In short, don't worry about them until we see if they're still in the memory dumps.
If you don't get any more BSOD's, then there's nothing to worry about.

Hey all, I've done a lot of research on Win8 so far. I like what I'm hearing about the performance and security improvements. However, I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade over Win7. That is, on a standard desktop with a mouse and keyboard. As you can see in my system specs, my box is...
