Freeze after sleep followed by 15-mins forced restart

    Hello everyone,

I have a 5 months old Asus ux32vd. Here's the problem: this morning I found the laptop extermely hot and unresponsive after resuming from sleep. Forced restart with power button resulted in a 15-min boot and normal work for the next hours. Until the lid was closed. After resuming from sleep on the next occasion, Win8 froze (became unresponsive with no error message) in a few minurtes. Restart with power button -> looooong boot -> normal work again. No mini-dump files created. Event viewer mentions Bluetooth-related issues (see attachement for the log file and screenshot of Device Manager). I am not using any Bluetooth devices, only wireless combo (the only usb port used on the regular basis). "Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)" in Device Manager was disable the whole time (it's enabled on the screenshot).

I tried standard Windows Startup tools - debugging and automatic repair - no result. I didn't do the hardware test yet. If the event file makes any sense to you, please, let me know. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. OS: Windows 8 64-bit, version 6.2.9200.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [S] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/S] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
    Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help
MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.
    Processor may be overclocked!
    Expected Frequency: 1900
    Actual Frequency: 2395
    Overclock Ratio: 1.26053
There are many more BSOD's listed in the WER section of MSINFO32 than there are minidumps in your upload. This has several different possibilities (bad hardware, crash too early in the boot process, etc). Try the above steps first. If the BSOD's continue, please start with these hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics (you can start them immediately if you'd like)

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Previous BSOD's blame USB devices - so you may want to check those (I particularly suspect the USB Ethernet Adapter).

    Windows 8

Dear John, thanks for your help. I have un-installed Daemon and Afterburner, but nothing changed. I ran the memory and hdd tests - both error-free. I did not overclock CPU and the speed bumps still seem disturbing. The analysis mentions iaStorA.sys as a probable cause of error. Quick googling shows it might have something to do with Intel Rapid Storage Technology (at least on Windows 7). So I opened Device Manager -> IDE ATA/API controllers and replaced Intel Sata Driver with Standard AHCI1.0 serial ATA controller. OS still needs around 3 minutes to reboot, perhaps because I removed 4GB of ram. Resuming from sleep doesn't hang the system anymore. I will put RAM back in, monitor OS for a couple of days and then come back with the result.

Again, thank you for taking the time to assist with my problem. Much appreciated and little understood why you'd even bother

Unfortunatelly, it's only half solved. The laptop wakes up normally now but the booting process and general Windows perfomance is very slow. And I can hardly believe it's because of insufficient Ram. As I wrote before on day 1 the laptop turned very hot during sleep which triggered all further problems. As far as I understand BIOS reduced the CPU speed in response to temperature bump, hence the slow boot and performance. Yet I can't see IEST in my BIOS, can't enable or disable it. The power management in Windows doesn't make any difference. Perhaps you would have some ideas how to reset CPU clock. Please see the Event Log screenshot attached.

Does the system still have problems if you're not overclocking?
Does the system still overheat in sleep? How did you troubleshoot the overheating issue?
    Have you updated your BIOS?
Have you communicated with the manufacturer to see if this is a warranty issue?
    What is IEST?
