I did a native UEFI install. Now I cannot boot into windows with the "boot configuration data file is missing" error. It gave a directory of EFI/Microsoft/Boot/BCD. The error appeared, ironically, after I updated windows.

So I tried to replace the bcd without achieving anything. I searched a lot of sites, and none of the fixes (bootrec, bcdedit, etc) works.

I already wiped the drive and reinstalled windows 8, so I can't get the dump file. But I have a feeling this will happen again. My previous win 7 installation went in a blue screen loop, that's why I switched to 8. Anyway, in case that happens again, how should I solve this?

This is my suggestion.

If your Windows 8 Pro is seemingly running good, make a restore point.

Go into the BIOS & enable Boot Menu:

When you run into trouble, restart & press F 12 to get the Boot Menu:

Choose UEFI

Choose the option to boot into Safe Mode with command prompt. ( #6 )

Type:

rstrui.exe

in the command prompt & press Enter.

This is my plan of action, if I ever run into serious issues.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Although I did forget about safe mode... I actually wasn't sure if it's still in Win 8.
