Massive Problems With Windows 8 Bluescreening

Ive had windows 8 for a while now but in the last few months ive started to get blue screens randomly. Im pretty sure it started after a graphics card update. Theres been a few updates since then but every now and then it bluescreens.

Ive even tried rolling back the video drivers but no luck. I googled some of the eror messages and from what i could see they seemed to suggest it may be a drievr problem or a memory problem.

So after trying various drivers i started to test the hard drive and the ram and found no problems. Ive tried a fresh install of Windows and still the same thing happens.

Yesterday the bluescreens were worse than ever, after the first bluescreen Windows wouldnt even boot it just kept bluescreening even after attempting to repair. After leaving it for a while i turn it on and it boots up no problems, then another bluscreen.

Im totally at a loss for what to do next, it would be great if someone could help. The computer i have originally came with windows 7 and i upgraded to 8 i added my own graphics card which is a Nvidia GTX 220.

    Thank you

Were any of these drivers beta drivers, you might need to uninstall all of the drivers, then download the newest non-beta driver from nVidia. The beta updates have all been highly unstable.

Sometimes, the memory on the video card will go bad, no way to test this unless there is some special utility that can do it.

I had a Dell Laptop with 512 ATI card on it, the memory went bad and Windows 7 would not run, it would blue screen. XP would run fine. It boggled me until I realised the error message for bad ram was actually telling me the ram on the card itself was bad. Dedicated card, so I was SOOL. I put XP on the laptop and sold it.

If you have another video card, swap it out and see if it still blue screens.

No all drivers were stable. I didnt even know the memory on the card could go! Thanks for that this may be what is happening. How would XP run and 7 wouldnt if the card memory was bad though? i dont get that.

Apparently you can, as long as you never use any program that uses that particular video memory. Windows 7 uses it for stuff like transparency, XP not having that, you can use it - My Dell, was only going to be used to Office programs and email, so I was able to set it up for that. But when I ran the Performance Test for Video, it wold always stall in the middle of windowed the 3D tests.

Don't toss out your card, test it in other systems. Yo say this has done it in 3 different Windows 8 Installs, add an XP install and see if it works.

With mine, I was able to install 7, but then when it rebooted for the last time after installing, it would get halfway loaded and then stall. But you see I was getting stalls, complete freezing as well as the Blue Screens.

So, the system works under Windows 7?

I use an old version of "PErformance Test" to check my Video Memory- Version 6.1 - I run the 3D test, and if the system locks up during the Windowed test at a certain spot, then it's Video Ram failure. I don't know if you can swap out the Ram on any of those expensive Video Cards. And I could not fix it on my Dell, even though the rest of the system was perfect.

Thanks ill look for the video test tool later. Havent used windows 7 for more than 5 minutes just installed it incase i need it to run something i cant run in linux, like maybe itunes.

I want to stay off windows as much as possible and see if my system stays stable for as long as i can, but ill give that tool a go and see what happens thanks again.
