DPC Watchdog Violation

Hello,

I recently refreshed Windows 8 have been running into "Watchdog" reboots. My guess is that it is something network related. I am using a Linksys wmp54g adapter, which hasn't been supported by Linksys for a couple of years.

The funny thing is that I never had this issue with my previous Windows 8 install, so I am not sure why it is happening now. The errors seem to happen most often when I am browsing. I thought the issue went away by installing an up to date network adapter driver from Ralink. The system was stable for pretty much a day, but I ran into the issue when closing my DAW (Ableton 9).

Anyway I was hoping someone could look at my log files and help point me in the direction of what the core issue could be. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I also would like to apologize if this post is redundant on this forum.

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

There's a possibility that this system just won't be able to handle Win8 without strange errors popping up (due to incompatibilities due to the age of the system). I have a Lenovo laptop w/a 2008 BIOS and it just won't operate well with Win8

No Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 80 - 100 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Unknown USB device listed in Device Manager. Do you have any idea of what it is?
If not, please generate a perfmon report by running "perfmon /report" from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.
Save the report as an .html file, zip it up, and upload it with your next post.

The memory dumps blame your RaLink wireless driver. It dates from 2007 - and probably isn't compatible with Win8. Try disabling the device and using the wired connection (?maybe a very long wire?) in order to see if that's the problem.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thank you for the response and sorry for the late response from my part. After you sent your reply, my system became more unstable than ever. I'm goning to try implementing all the updates you suggested. It doesn't look like XFX supports motherboards anymore. Do you think I could use a bios update from another manufacturer (i.e. EVGA), for the same model motherboard? I don't know what the unknown device is, but I will perform the report and send that in my next post. Thank you for all your help.

I wouldn't trust a BIOS from another manufacturer. It could damage your motherboard and then you'd be without a computer.
Frankly, with the age of the system, your best bet is to either upgrade to a system that's Win8 compatible - or downgrade this system to Win7.

Hello USAMA, I downgraded to Windows 7 and so far everything seems stable. I do think ultimately my network adapter was not working well with Windows 8, even though it had been for months. Anyway thank you for your help and suggestions. One last thing, I was wondering if keeping my PC on my carpet could cause instability. I read that it was fine, as the case protects from static electricity, but I was thinking that it could be a factor in my recent troubles.

Thanks agian.

I always place my system on a hard surface - it's just a habit that I got from long ago.
I don't think that the case caused problems for you, but putting a board under it couldn't hurt.
