Hello Everyone,

I have a Dell Precision M6600 mobile workstation with a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD. Attached are my output files from the SF Diagnostic Tool.

It appears every BSOD I have had is caused by the ntoskrnl.exe and sometimes hal.dll files.

It started when I had the factory shipped Windows 7 OS. Since then I have installed Windows 8 and still getting the BSOD. I have reinstalled Windows 7 and 8 multiple times and used it with the drivers Windows finds and also by downloading the drivers from Dell’s site.

I have ran my workstation docked and removing one peripheral at a time and undocked with nothing connected to my workstation and see the same behavior.

I ran memtest for over a day (7 passes) with no issues. I have had a motherboard and hard drive replaced from Dell while troubleshooting this issue.

This latest BSOD is from a fresh install with only the drivers Windows 8 picks up.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks…

This sounds like a hardware problem to me.
You've ruled out the motherboard and the hard drive (by having them replaced)

Only 67 Windows Updates. Most systems have 80 - 100 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

These devices aren't installed, please install them (you can get them at the Dell Support site):
Mass Storage Controller PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_8330&SUBSYS_04A41028&REV_05\4&26A5C9FF&0&02E7 The drivers for this device are not installed. (?USB3.0?)
Broadcom USH w/touch sensor USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5802&MI_00\7&95FD152&0&0000 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Not Available ACPI\SMO8800\1 The drivers for this device are not installed. (?SmartConnect?)
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 USB\VID_8086&PID_0188\6&F796A3F&0&5 The drivers for this device are not installed.

Both BSOD's seem to be focused on power issues - this, for starters, could be caused by the missing drivers above.
But also, there's some outdated drivers listed below that need to be updated also.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi usasma,

Thanks for the reply and the information. I am also thinking its hardware but wanted some more confirmation. I have updated the listed drivers and just experienced another BSOD. Attached are my logs. I updated my driver on 8/27 around 10 AM so the lasted dmp file I think that needs to be looked at is 8/28/13 12:47 PM.

I am still seeing the same 9f stop code and DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Most times I see the BSOD in the morning when I leave my laptop on but locked over night in my office. However, this latest one was from simply rebooting during the day. I understand it could be a sleep/hibernate issue. I currently have my power settings set to "Never Sleep while plugged in". I have also turned off the sleep/hibernate setting and did the same for the hard disk settings.

Could this issue be caused by a memory problem? I ran memtest for almost a day and a half (~7 passes) but no issues were found.

Any other information would be appreciated.

Thanks again...

The uploaded reports are incomplete - but if you've updated your Windows Updates there's no need to repost. If you haven't, please update your Windows Updates.

It's possible that it's memory, but the MemTest is a fairly accurate test. We occasionally find memory problems with Prime95 when a system has passed MemTest. I'd suggest starting with all the hardware diagnostics here: Hardware Diagnostics

What we do here is we rule out all the 3rd party driver problems until there are none left. At that point we presume that it's a hardware problem. FWIW - I tend to suspect networking issues here - and I notice a WiMax USB device. On a hunch, please remove it and it's software temporarily.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
