Hello, I'm new to the forums (as you can very well tell) and I'm slightly ashamed of myself but...I need help. I hope one of you has the ability. I'm not new to troubleshooting but from this end of the problem I am. I'll try to be as precise as possible. Here we go!

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 since January of 2013 on this build. Not a single issue to date. I decided to make the leap to Windows 8, against my better judgement, to see if this "15% to 20% increase in performance" for my Piledriver based FX-8350 was a reality or a gimmick. I've been through 2 clean installs so far, this being my 3rd, and this exact issue keeps arising. Upon shutting down and booting the computer back up I receive a black screen hang followed by a quick restart of the PC. After the restart, everything works perfectly. Windows tells me their was an issue and asks if I'd like to send the information to Microsoft. I always decline due the endeavor always being fruitless. I check BlueScreenView to see the root cause of this issue. I get:

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa800ea4d7f0, 0xfffff8024ff49770,

*** hal.dll - Address 0xfffff8024e81ce61 base at 0xfffff8024e800000 DateStamp

This is consistent across 3 minidumps (this install). The issue DOES NOT reveal itself when I simply restart my PC. Snooping around using my Google-Fu skills I've come across what I consider is likely the issue. It seems to be ACPI related. I'm not entirely sure but it is a well educated guess. My other theory, based on the evidence, is that there is an issue with the HDMI audio out of my GPUs (of which I do not use). This is corroborated by this Device Manager issue:

I'm not as sure about this being the culprit as this shouldn't cause an issue like that but it is an apparent issue. To further elaborate on the theorized ACPI issue, it seems it can be cause by an old ACPI driver. From what I can tell mine is dated at 2006. I have about 5 ACPI related drivers so I'm not sure which one is at fault (if any) but there is one that directly references hal.dll (or at least I think it does):

Here is my minidump file:

Please, let me know if any further clarification is required. I realize I just laid a whopper of a post but I'm hoping to not only help myself but others. Thank you in advance for any help!

EDIT:

Sorry, apparently I need to read directions better. I've attached my zip as per the BSOD Posting Instructions. Since my initial post I am now suspecting the:

High Definition Audio Controller
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_AAB0&SUBSYS_AAB01458&REV_00

...to be the culprit. Then again, I apparently don't know jack or sh*t when it comes to this issue. Haha! I'm also not so sure that device has anything to do with my HDMI audio output at all upon further inspection. I've seen Realtek audio devices come up the offender in similar issues. Could that be it? Either way, thanks again in advance!

OK...it seems I got completely overlooked. Those who have posted long after and before me have all been replied to. No matter. This isn't entirely for me so I'll post some findings I've had in the meantime. I've narrowed the issue to SOMETHING that is installed during my VGA driver installation. I'm running 2 x GIGABYTE ATI HD 7870's in CrossfireX. During my above post I was running the 13.4 Catalyst drivers. So, here's the situation. I reformatted my SSD and reinstalled Windows 8 Pro x64. Instead of starting with the drivers, like I normally do, I let Microsoft Update do it's thing until there were no more updates available. At that time everything within my Device Manager was satisfied and my machine ran just fine. No errors. No BSODs at boot after shutdown. The only thing I had to deal with was my screen was underscanned at 1080p which is something I would need Catalyst for but no big deal. I imaged my drive with Clonezilla and proceeded with driver installation. I installed my Chipset drivers. Tested the issue. Everything perfect. I installed my sound drivers. Tested the issue. Everything perfect. The same goes for my LAN and Asmedia SATA controller. The only thing left now is my VGA. I install Catalyst 13.4, everything installs and I restart. I notice the same...
High Definition Audio Controller
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_AAB0&SUBSYS_AAB01458&REV_00
...error and upon doing a shutdown and boot test...BOOM! The original error rears it's ugly head. I figured I found the culprit! So I reformat and restore my image. I install all my drivers besides my VGA. I then go on AMDs website and grab the 13.8 beta drivers. They install. I restart. To my surprise the...
High Definition Audio Controller
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_AAB0&SUBSYS_AAB01458&REV_00
...disabled error is now no longer an issue and my entire Device Manager is now satisfied! I breathe a sigh of relief and go to test the shutdown and boot error. BOOM! Still happens! Now, I'm all sorts of pissed off. I turn the machine off for the day. Wake up the next morning. Go to work. Just get back today at 3PM. Boot the computer at 3:30PM and...Holy sh*t! No boot error after shutdown. I'm still on the PC and after I post this I'm going to see if the problem is resolved or if it comes back after one more shutdown and boot test.

Just to be clear...when I install and use Window 7 Ultimate x64 or Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64 none of these issues, errors or BSODs occur. This is solely a Windows 8 issue. No hardware is malfunctioning. I've gone through all memory, hard drive, CPU and GPU tests. Everything is physically functioning as intended.

I didn't get to your post, and I work from oldest to newest.
Since you replied, that moved it to the newer end of the list I follow.

Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Test your hard drive(s): Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there (no need to repeat them if you've already run them).
We'll then move on to this procedure: Hardware Stripdown Troubleshooting (I'm looking to rule in/out the motherboard)

But, prior to that, try running Driver Verifier according to these directions: Driver Verifier Settings

Alright...here's the update with consideration to your instructions. My motherboard's BIOS is already the newest version (v1503). My VGA cards also have their most up to date BIOS (F11 and F3 respectively). I used the OCZ Bootable tools to test my 256GB Vertex 4 main drive and got a PASS. I ran the Western Digital Data Lifeguard for my 1TB WD10EZEX storage drive and got a PASS. I ran Memtest86+ for 5 passes without a single error. I do not overclock and haven't even considered it since the Radeon 9000 PCI days :p . So, that takes care of the hardware...As per your instruction involving my VGA drivers. I secure erased my main drive and reinstalled Windows 8 to be sure I had a clean base. I installed the drivers ONLY following the instructions exactly from your forum link. The same...

I also edited my registry to set my overscan to 0 to utilize my entire TV screen through HDMI (purely cosmetic and not relating to the issue at hand). I then installed the latest IP and IT drivers for my Windows Desktop 3000 wireless keyboard and mouse combo. I believe this satisfies your entire list.

I honestly have no reason to rule in any hardware errors what-so-ever. I am an "innocent until proven guilty" kind of guy when it comes to hardware. All hardware tests pass, both Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64 run without issue on the exact same hardware. This, in my estimation, is PURELY a Windows 8 issue. I am a technical professional small business owner and a network administrator for 3 companies. Not that my credentials matter exactly but I just want to make sure you know that my opinion is worth more than the average user.

Also, I would really like to get this solved including the use of AMD Catalyst due to my need of the CrossfireX function (unless you know of a way to force it using an alternative command). Thank you for your help thus far and hopefully, with your help, I can figure this out and get this matter put to bed. Let me know what you need done, short of stripping down my entire system chasing hardware ghosts that I have no reason to believe exist. If that is the only solution left on the table I'll humbly bow out and just reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and get on with life. I'd rather not do that as I kind of like Windows 8 Pro x64 and would prefer to keep it if at all possible. Again, I thank you for your help and any help you'll be providing in the future! Thank you!

EDIT:

Attached are the 2 new minidumps from the Driver Verifier process. The minidump from 4:23AM is prior to the process. It seems the only thing that is failing now is the Driver Verifier itself, although I'm not entirely sure. Either way...there you go.

Feel free to rule hardware in or out as you'd like - it's your system.

The first of the 3 memory dumps is suggestive of a disk error
From this line: FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x9F_3_disk_IMAGE_amd_sata.sys

The other 2 memory dumps are Driver Verifier enabled memory dumps.
Have you enabled Driver Verifier? This sort of error can be generated without having Driver Verifier enabled. But regardless of the source, these both point to video drivers as the cause of the error.
Please don't forget to turn Driver Verifier off. To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings" and then click on the "Finish" button. Then reboot for the changes to take affect.

Quite frankly, the whole BSOD analysis thing is basically "chasing ghosts", and it can take a long time - so I'd think that going back to Win7 is probably a good choice to make.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
