BSOD after windows updates

Hello forum. I manually installed windows updates yesterday. They seemed to have installed fine. I rebooted and went about my day...early evening i stepped away from my laptop for a few minute and came back to the lock screen. It had rebooted from a BSOD while I was away...I wasnt doing much on the computer at the time. Comodo dragon browser open playing a facebook game and winamp streaming some music...Any help would be greatly appreciated

Only 60 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 80 - 100 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

These 2 devices are disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?

Please enable the devices and update their drivers. Feel free to disable them again after the updates.

AntiVir, Comodo, Adv System Care, 360 Internet Security are all installed. You can only have 1 antivirus and 1 firewall active at a time. Please uninstall all but one of each (and ensure that Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are turned off if you have others installed). I'm unsure of the components of each that are installed, so please research them carefully. The alternative is to uninstall all of them and enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): ~~[DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL]~~ Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012

Please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I have IE10 disabled. I did that first thing right out of the box. Any windows update that applies to IE10, I have opted not to install. That is why my update # is low...should I go back and install all those updates?

I have these devices disabled because I don't and won't use them. Having them run at start up and run in the background seemed like a waste of resources, so I have everything disabled. again, should I enable them, update them, then turn them off?

The 1st program you have listed is actually ANVIR...it's a task manager only. Adv sys care is a registry, file cleaner etc....it has malware and virus removal tools, but I have them turned off. Comodo is Comodo dragon browers (chromium based alternative to chrome) 360 internet security is my antivirus and should be the only AV running. I run windows firewall with that.

I have no problem uninstalling daemon tools. I will do that now and await further instructions...Thank you again for your time

How did you disable IE10?

Not a problem with disabling the devices, but I have to know if you disabled them due to problems or not.
I prefer disabling devices in the BIOS, but if unable to do that disabling in Windows will work - BUT - the drivers may still load for these devices, so updating them is required.

I'm not an antivirus expert, so thank you for the explanation.

Daemon Tools is one of the most common BSOD causes, so removing it is most likely the cure here. But, have you found/removed the program that goes with WinRing0x64.sys? It dates from 2008, so it's likely not compatible with Win8 (and should be removed).

Then we wait to see if the BSOD's have stopped........

for IE10 I went in to disable windows features and unchecked it. I never use use it, it never pops up, so I dont update it. I've never had any probs with that...
the bluetooth and cam are disabled because I never use them. the bluetooth used to load several programs at startup, and that seemed a waste of resources to me...
I did uninstall daemon tools and use the additional program you suggested to ensure the driver was removed. that was a success
I found the program using winring, it was a battery optimizer app that I had installed relatively recently. It was neat, but totally unnecessary, so it has been removed as well...so far so good....thank you again for taking the time to analyze my crash and for giving me the steps to help fix it

Hmmm, I've never encountered this before. But let's think about this a bit...
Windows Update shouldn't offer IE10 updates unless IE10 is seen on the system.
Microsoft insists that IE is a critical part of the OS that is required for it to function.
So we have to wonder if all of IE10 is disabled - or if only the part visible to the user is disabled.

So, it seems to me that IE10 is still active on your system (although it may not be usable). If so, I'd suggest updating the IE10 stuff as a precaution (but wait until we see if the Daemon Tools and WinRing stuff have fixed the BSOD's).

I choose this suggestion because of previous experience with devices that are disabled in Device Manager. In this case, some of these devices load drivers before they are disabled by Windows - which means that the device drivers should be updated. But I have to wonder if:
1) Microsoft knows more than the device developers, and consequently they've made it safe to disable IE10 and it won't load (I doubt this because they won't let it uninstall, and that updates are still offered).
2) If my supposition about this is correct. In other words, do the IE10 functions behave similarly to devices that are disabled in Device Manager?

I could tap dance around this issue for another hour or two - but I fear that you'd start to get the the glazed over eyes that I often see when talking to people about this :0). In short, wait and see if the Daemon Tools and WinRing removals have fixed the BSOD's.

If they do stop, then use your judgement whether to install the IE10 updates or not.
If they don't stop, then install the IE10 updates to see if that helps stop the BSOD's.

morning. pardon the pun, but your train of thought is right on track....the only thing i have to add to it is...IE is still on this computer, disabled or not, microsoft sees that it's here and offers the updates? I have only opened IE once and that was to download firefox....now, having said that, I will leave things as they are for now and watch for any more crashes...right now, I am about 48 hours of running without issue....thanks to you, I do have additional things to try....I really appreciate your time
