Solved Bad_pool_caller

Hi

I'm having some trouble with the BAD_POOL_CALLER error. I'm currently running on Windows 8.1 Preview. The issue seems only to appear when opening a certain selection of images (.jpg, but not all .jpg). I have zipped my .dmp files from the minidump folder. Hope someone can take the time to help me.

Also I thought I could ask another question while I was at it. I can't adjust the brightness on my laptop (Samsung NP730U3E). Adjusting it with the hotkeys on the keyboard or in settings doesn't work. The brightness seems to be adaptive when on battery, but plugged in it's always on max.

I don't know about the BSOD issues but I do know that changing screen brightness on some laptops requires a certain background process to be running (Toshiba is terrible for this). This could explain why the functions keys for brightness just don't work.
Does the fn+F1 key work? Do any of the other function keys work?

If they do:
Press fn + F1 and adjust the screen brightness under the title 'display' where there should be a sliding bar.

If they don't:
It looks like samsung uses a program called SW UPDATE for all it's drivers. If you download that there might be an auto scan function or even a program that should sound a little something like 'hotkeys support driver' or 'easy settings' etc etc.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, just my 2 cents :)

Thanks for the reply.

All function keys work. When pushing the ones that should alter the brightness, a bar appears on the screen indicating the brightness level. The bar can indicate that I've changed the brightness, but in reality nothing changes.

All drivers from SW update are already installed.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Processor may be overclocked!
Expected Frequency: 2000
Actual Frequency: 2494
Overclock Ratio: 1.247

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Replace your Intel graphics drivers:
- download a fresh copy of the Intel graphics drivers
- uninstall the Intel graphics driver from your system
- install the freshly downloaded graphics driver
- monitor for further BSOD's

FWIW - I have a Samsung NP780 that I use as a Desktop replacement and I've noticed 2 things:
- it runs hot as all heck (so it shouldn't be overclocked)
- the Samsung add-on programs cause the system to lock up periodically (I haven't figured out which one it is yet).

Hi

The PC has never been overclocked, however replacing the Intel graphics driver seems to have done the trick. Thank you very much.

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8.1 Preview
I suspect that the overclock is due to a "Turbo" type program installed on the system (either in the BIOS or within Windows).
As it doesn't appear to be related to the BSOD's, I'd ignore it for now.

FYI - monitor the temps of the system. Even if it's not causing problems now, constant overheating can cause components to degrade and cause problems in the long run. Keep an eye on it and keep it as cool as you can.

Good luck!
