Win 8 crashed when attempting to return from hibernation

This is about a two week old HP desktop computer. This problem has occurred twice since I have had it. This is the latest error.

The first time had the same error message with slightly different P2, P3, and P4 values.

I assume there may be a driver at fault but the standard BSOD utilities only point to the OS kernel. Any help would be appreciated.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

The WER section of MSINFO32 shows usbscan.sys as the cause of 1 of the errors. Are you using a USB scanner/printer?

I would suggest uninstalling the printer and physically remove it from the computer to see if that stops the BSOD's. If you need the printer before it BSOD's, then download a fresh copy of the drivers for that device and install them.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

This is a brand new computer. The wattage on the power supply is 460w. I don't know the make and model. I would have to open it up to find that. Regarding the firmware on the SSD drive, how would I find that? The printer is a Canon MP610. It is not directly attached to the computer. It is attached to a Synology NAS. I access the printer through my network via the NAS. I have the latest driver for it. When I attach the printer to my Win 8 computer via the Synology software, I do get a yellow marker on the printer icon indicating a driver issue. The printer does work however.

OK, things are getting worse. It has crashed twice (maybe 3 times) this evening.

#1: The system was idle for maybe 30-45 minutes. The printer was attached to the system. This was at 6:35pm. Below are the associated messages. When I rebooted I made sure that the printer was detached. I then let it sit for a couple of hours.

The computer and NAS are connected to a UPS. The UPS monitoring software indicates that I am using less than 100 watts of power. This is with the computer, monitor, NAS, and printer attached. Do you want another SF report?

Regarding the usbstor.sys issue, it appears that Windows 7 and Windows 8 can not totally recognize my Canon MP610 printer. I end up with three entries in Device Manager: one for the printer, one for the scanner, and one unknown USB Mass Storage Device. This is where the error (Code 10 "Cannot start") is being generated. So it looks like there is a problem with the driver from Canon and they don't have a later one.

With the first message, it gave a status error of 0xC00000BB which is "STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED"
The second message is an Event ID 41. It states that Windows doesn't know why it shut down unexpectedly
The third message is confirmation of the Event ID 41 error (on reboot)
The fourth message is the same as the second one. I can't figure the times out either - but that should be easier to view when looking at the summary in Event Viewer.

Just FYI - the BugCheck Code entry is in Decimal and must be converted to hex in order to see what error it actually is. Converting BugCheck Code 159 to hex gives BugCheck Code 9F

The last message is the STOP 0x9F error with the first parameter being a 3

I'm uncertain of the properties/abilities of your UPS to monitor power - but I have to wonder if a 460 watt power supply is enough to supply power to all parts of the system at all times. I'm not suggesting that you replace it at this time, but do suggest that you might try disconnecting some devices to see if that makes the system more reliable.

If you hook the printer to your system and it gives errors, then it's most likely the problem.
I also have to wonder why that same device (with the same drivers) doesn't even give an error when hooked through your NAS
I would leave the printer disconnected (and remove it's software) in order to verify that it is the cause of the errors.

1. The two SAS......sys drivers belong to SuperAntiSpyware.I have the latest version of it. They just updated it about a month ago. I do not want to uninstall it unless I can find something better.

2. When I look at the properties for CLVirtualDrive.sys, the date shows as June 25, 2012. I don't know why there is a discrepancy in dates. This file is part of Cyberlink's Power2Go software installed by HP on the computer. They do not have a newer version available.

I will see if when I leave the NAS (and thus the printer) off and leave the computer sit for a while, if I run into the problem. Then at least that might confirm that the problem is related to the printer.

The printer will have to be physically disconnected - not just turned off. I say this because I don't know the details of your system, network, and NAS - and don't have the time to spend figuring all that out. It's much simpler just to remove it, uninstall the software, and see if that fixes it.
Also, the printer drivers will have to be uninstalled (so potential problems with the drivers on your system are ruled out also).

I don't suspect that SuperAntiSpyware drivers - but they do date from before Win8 was released. You can always uninstall it temporarily - then reinstall it once the system is stabilized.

HP will tell you that the Cyberlink drivers are Win8 compatible - but you have to have suffered through HP's other fiasco's in order to wonder if you can trust this. FWIW - I haven't seen any problems with this driver either - so I'd tend to trust it for now.

In short, the most likely problem is the printer - so focus your efforts on that.
If the printer is ruled out as a problem - then we can work with the SAS/Cyberlink stuff.

OK, things are looking up. The system has been up for a few days and going into sleep mode on occasion. I have been able to bring it back up without issue. I mentioned the strange crash I was having lately where it seemed to have crashed while in sleep mode and then about two minutes after I brought it out of sleep mode, it would then tell me the system had crashed, it collected the pertinent data, and finally told me to reboot. I have tracked that down to a USB to Serial Adapter which seemed to work well until the system went into sleep mode. I had installed that after first posting here. The drivers were dated from 2007 and supposedly were Win 8 compatible. As long as the adapter is not plugged in when the system goes into sleep mode, there is no problem, but if plugged in at that time, the crash occurs. I have contacted the manufacturer to see if they have any updates.

Regarding the original crash issue, I have also uninstalled the printer driver. I contacted Canon regarding it and they replied that it is not supported attached to a NAS so I am up a creek. I will need to find some way of getting that to work, otherwise I will be forced to set my computer to never sleep or worse to get a new printer. I will see if there is some way of having the driver installed and still use the printer on occasion.

I'm glad to hear that you've figured things out.

I have to wonder about manufacturer's claiming that anything dating from 2007 is Win8 compatible. I also have to wonder about their testing methodology - and how "in-depth" it actually is. I suspect it's more of a "our literature says it's compatible, so it's compatible" rather than any concrete knowledge about the testing. But, I can sit here and second guess them all day long - the actual test is when you try to use it with Win8.

As for the printer issue, I'd suggest that you get a printer that's compatible. Unless this is a special model, they're really not all that expensive - and the reliability of a compatible printer will help to keep you from pulling your hair out!
