Hi guys,

I am receiving the following error code:

"Recovery
your Pc needs to be repaired

The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information

File:/BCD
Error Code: 0xc0000034

You will need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. if you dont have any installation media (like a Dvd or Usb device) contact your system administrator or Pc manufacturer

Press ESC for UEFI Firmware Settings "

I bought an Acer Aspire E1-571 five weeks ago (Intel Core i7, 2.2 GHz, 8GB DDR3). It came pre-installed with Windows 8, so I dont have any installation media.

My questions:

1. Is this an Acer problem (needing Acer support) or a Windows 8 problem (needing Microsoft support)?
2. What should I do? I can only get to the UEFI Firmware Settings, but don't even really know what that is.

Thank you all for your help!

The boot file on your hard drive is corrupted. Why? Who knows? It could be an indication of a failing hard drive. Now, under a Windows 8 boot-loader scenario, I could supply you with a set of commands to try and repair your issue; however, because you have a UEFI installation, I really don't know if those commands would apply because I've never encountered your situation before. In any event, I would go straight to Acer support if under warranty. Good luck.

I have contacted Acer and will have to wait 24 hours for their reply. Will probably have to go through a couple of days/weeks of back and forth before this is solved, but will keep you updated in case others encounter the same problem. Has anyone else, by chance, been able to resolve this specific issue?

Your plan is sound IMHO and maybe someone else (with UEFI experience) can get you a quicker fix. Good luck.

Create a System Repair Disc (using another Win8 system of the same bittage - most likely 64 bit as you have 8 gB of RAM) - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER

Then boot from the System Repair Disc and tell it to run Startup Repair.

Hi usama,

I have never been able to create a system repair disc and use it to boot from a Win 8 UEFI BIOS installation. I always get a disc is not bootable response. However, using the repair option of the original installation disc always works for me. So, am I doing something wrong when I create that repair disc under a UEFI installation?

Not necessarily, it depends on how your UEFI is setup. There are several settings that may prevent it from booting (such as Secure Boot, disabled Legacy Boot, etc) If I can locate an Acer w/UEFI at work today I'll make a note of what the settings are there.

Hi guys, i.e. usasma and justatest,

About time for an update. Unfortunately, I could not find another computer with Wondows 8 x64 nearby, so I brought my computer with me when I went to Paris. I spoke with a tech expert there who tried his W8 cd, but got nowhere. Tried all options, including repair, formating, etc. As a matter of fact he seemed pretty confused about the whole UEFI W8 system and he could not find anyone else who knew about this particular issue. I ended up sending my computer in to Acer who just switched the entire hard disk. Now I just have to find a way to send it to my new location. I hope this doesnt happen again!
