Frequent and random BSODs.

This PC worked fine with Windows XP, never a problem. After installed Windows 8 Pro (clean install, no upgrade) I started with BSODs (few days after install). Done all memory tests, no problem with memory (2 GB). Also tried to manually set page file (min and max size: 8 GB), nothing changed.

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Only 450 mB of RAM free - you need more memory in order to run Windows (and lack of memory can cause BSOD's). While waiting to add more RAM, please trim your startup items using the Startup tab of Task Manager. Also, only run one program at a time until you get more RAM.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

If the BSOD's continue after you've updated these drivers (or if you're unable to update them) - then it's possible that the system is too old to fully work with Win8.

If you wish to continue then, please start with these free hardware diagnsotics: Hardware Diagnostics

I've updated the BIOS to the latest firmware and also switched the EIDE settings from ATA to AHCI (I did the right steps to do it). I'll try to upgrade or remove old drivers asap. Now the system is quite stable, no BSOD until now.

It's too early to say it's solved, I'll double check in next days.

Thank you for your help

Solved

After bios update and change to hd drive now Win 8 Pro is stable and fast, no more bsod.By the way, in my event viewer now I have 14 errors (not real errors) in last 24 hours against 65849 errors of last 7 days.I'll go further with driver update, but surely now the problem is solved.Thank you

Nice work! Out of curiosity, what gave you the idea to change from IDE to AHCI? I believe that that would be what's fixed the problems.

After bios update, I loaded the default values (good practice after bios update). Then I checked the bios values to check if all is ok. I noticed the hd was set as ATA and not AHCI (I knew AHCI is faster then ATA). I changed the value but Windows 8 didn't start. So I set back to ATA, Windows 8 worked and I accessed the web and found instructions about AHCI switching.

Before the bios and AHCI switching my hd was always at work. Now it works fine and fast.

Thanks for this info - it's a good thing to check and I'm adding it to my routine when flashing BIOS at work.
