BSOD happening at random intervals

Just got my new computer set up.

Have installed everything myself, and everything seamed to work perfectly in the beginning.

After a while(same day) I started to get BSOD at random intervals.

I don't know where the problem is, but I have been using Prime95 to stress-test the computer. Everything then went ok. Turned it off and left the computer, but when I came back. i was greeted with message that the computer had turned off incorrectly. The BSOD have happened mostly when I have been away from the computer, but they have also appeared a few times when I have been working on it.

At average a few times a day maybe. Got it up and running on Sunday, so have not been running that long.

I have also ran the Memory Diagnostic tool that is built into Win 8, with no errors.

My Hardware spec:
Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro
CPU: Intel i5-4679K
RAM: Kingston HyperX blu 2X8GB, KHX16C10B1K2/16X
HDD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (system disc)
Intel SSDSA2M080G2GC Intel 80 GB X25M Mainstream SATA II Solid-State Drive
Samsung HD103UJ
PSU: BeQuiet! Straight Power E9 CM 680 W

For referance, the CPU is going on higher speed than the stock set-up. Have been using the Asus automatic 4-way optimization thru the Utility "AI Suite 3". Don't know how to undo these changes. Can manually go into the TPU sectino of the program and reduce the Ratio down so that it runs on the stock speed, but I don't know what else the 4-way Optimization did.
I have also enabled the XMP profile in the BIOS. So the memory is going at 1666MHz instead of 1333MHz.

Would really appreciate all the help I can get. Don't like to worry about when the next BSOD will happen on my new computer!
:)
If I have forgotten something or there is something you need to know, please shout out!

Just had 2 BSOD in a row. First when playing Minecraft, and the second while trying to write this post!

Uploading the latest spec and dumps.

Hope there is someone out there that understands this more than me..

Hi again,

Would really like some help with my issue.
I thought that everything was ok, since I had the computer running fine for a long time, but suddenly one day when I returned to the computer I got a message that the computer had not turned off correctly.

I have made a new report in case there is something of value after the last crash.

I hope you are able to get something out of this so that I don't have to worry about BSOD regularly..

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thank you for the feedback!

I have now checked my SSD's firmware, and they are the latest.
Have also reinstalled storage controller drivers on the motherboard (I think).

Have uninstalled this one, because it was the latest version I could download.

Asus Charger Driver [br] Likely BSOD cause - haven't seen recently (15Jan2013)

All the drivers/programs from ASUS that you listed is the newest one, downloaded from their support page. What can I do if I can't get a newer version?
I completely removed the ASUS AI Charger+, since you think that the reason of the BSOD is that driver.

Also not sure how to update the 3 first drivers on that list, since I got the drivers from the lastest download from logmein.com

Also the ANDROIDUSB.sys I got after downloading the latest software from HTC, so I'm not sure how to get a newer driver for that either.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version, even thoug I'm not sure what it is for? :p Anyway I'm not sure if I installed a newer driver.

Is there a program that I can use to check If I have updated some of the drivers after what I now have done?

Most drivers are located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers
DO NOT MESS WITH THE DRIVERS IN THE FOLDER!!! Only look at them!!!
Don't worry about any other older drivers - unless they show up in the memory dumps.

If you can't find a more recent driver - then uninstall the program (I'm particularly concerned about the LogMeIn, Hamachi, and Android USB drivers). If you absolutely must have that program, wait until the system is stabilized and then reinstall it.

How I check the drivers is I wait until the next BSOD.
If you don't get a BSOD, then there's no need to check
If you do get a BSOD and they aren't there - then there's probably not a need to check
If you do get a BSOD and they are there - then it's easy to check in the memory dump.

Thanx again for the help and your replies!

Have uninstalled most of the program, and everything from HTC, but the ANDROIDUSB.sys Mon Oct 26 04:54:23 2009 (4AE563BF) is still there. How can I delete it, without using the delete button in the windows explorer?

The BSOD have as mentioned not occured as often the last few days, so hard so say if it is OK now, but will do without the programs and drivers for a while to see IF I get a BSOD again.

How to safely remove ANDROIDUSB.sys:

1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc:
Win8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
3) Test the System Repair disc to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of ANDROIDUSB.sys that are starting (or any other Android entries) (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of ANDROIDUSB.sys (or any other Android entries) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of ANDROIDUSB.sys or any other Android entries are disabled.
7) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the ANDROIDUSB.sys driver to ANDROIDUSB.BAD

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the Command Prompt option to rename ANDROIDUSB.BAD to ANDROIDUSB.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ANDROIDUSB.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ANDROIDUSB.sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

Got home om Tuesday and the computer have been working great since then, but today I increased the CPU speed by using the ASUS 4-way optimizer. After a while I got a BSOD again!!
Will try to get rid of the ANDROIDUSN.sys now, and see if that makes any difference.

I'm uploading the latest BSOD dump, so maybe you get any more out of it?

Cause and effect? Decrease the CPU speed and see if the system crashes.

Memory dump is most likely a hardware error (?caused by the overclock?), but there's still lot's of other stuff of concern in the dump files. Fortunately very few of the drivers in this dump were in previous dumps (which makes it less likely that they caused the crash). My biggest concern right now is the Asus AICharger program - please uninstall it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanx again for your reply.
After I got the BSOD, I turned down the clock speed and have not had a BSOD since. So I guess one of the reasons at least is the overclocking.
But just think it is strange, since the CPU is "designed" to be overclocked to the speed used.

I have allready uninstalled the Asus AICharger program, but the driver is still there. Why? :)

Also, the Logitech driver got installed when i tried to get a old webcam to function, but that failed, so I uninstalled that software as well. And the driver is still there?

Regarding the
ASUS Kernel Mode Driver, I can't find any new on the ASUS support page. Could it be hidden under some other name?

Have not remvoed the ANDROIDUSB.sys that where mentioned last time, and I can see now that the driver is not in your list, does that mean that it is checked 'ok'?

IMO, if it was designed to be run with an overclock - then it'd be sold at that speed without an overclock.
Overclocking is, by definition, raising the clock speed above what the chip was intended to run at.

Manufacturer's test the CPU's to see what they can reliably run at - and that's what they mark and sell the CPU's as. A successfully overclocked chip is equivalent to you winning the CPU lottery. You got lucky to get one of the chips that was able to run stably at a clock speed higher than the manufacturer tested that batch for.

If you're not getting BSOD's, then my opinion is to leave well enough alone (don't change anything and don't mess with any other drivers). "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!"

In most cases if a driver doesn't return in subsequent BSOD's, it's probably not involved in the crash. But there are situations (which are fairly common) where a driver may not show up in a memory dump - but it still caused the BSOD. Here's the scenario for this sort of crash:
- a bad driver writes to a memory address owned by another, good driver
- the bad driver exits
- then the good driver gets around to using the affected memory address
- it finds something there that it didn't expect - so it panics and crashes, creating the BSOD and the memory dump
- since the bad driver had already exited, there's no evidence of it in the memory dumps
- since there's no evidence of the bad driver, the memory dump blames the driver that owned the memory address

Finally, if you uninstalled a program to remove a driver and the driver remains (and especially if it's still loaded) - there was a problem with the uninstall. This is either a problem with the installation on your system, or a design flaw in the uninstaller. In the case of the AI Charger, I haven't seen issues with this on other systems - so I suspect something went wrong with the uninstall on your system. The way to "fix" this is to install and then uninstall a fresh copy - and if that doesn't work, then to use a procedure to safely remove the driver. That being said, remember my earlier advice in this post - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

Have you updated to the newest Asus AI Suite? that is the program package that handles the things like USB boost, usb charging, the 4 way processor thing, etc. That might be where the "newest" drivers for those things are, being listed as a Utility, instead of specific section where you'd expect them to be on the asus support page.
