    BSODs when running scans

Hi! I really hope someone can help me because I'm slowly becoming desperate. I bought a Sony Vaio laptop around 4 months ago and it came with Windows 8. I've had no problems with it until now. Yesterday I decided to run the full scan for the first time since I got the laptop using Windows Defender. Around 15 minutes into the scan, my screen turned blue and showed me an error which read 'kernel data inpage error'. The laptop restarted itself and I ran the scan again. It took around 40 minutes before my laptop crashed again, showing the same error. I looked up this error on many forums and tried so many different things to fix it. I've updated everything, did a disk check which resulted in my laptop finding some error and fixing it. After that, I decided not to use Windows Defender since it was obviously causing the errors and downloaded Malwarebytes which was recommended on some forum instead. I ran the full scan and it found many potential viruses on my laptop. There were around 16 before I fell asleep, and when I woke up (an hour later), the laptop was turned off (it crashed again). So I turned it on again, started the scan AGAIN and after some minutes my screen froze and I got another error, but this time it was 'page fault in non-paged area'. I did a disk check again and it found no errors but my laptop crashed once again when I tried to run a scan (quick scan this time). This doesn't happen if I'm not running a scan, but I really want to clean my laptop since it looks like I've got lots of unwanted viruses and whatnots on it. I'd really appreciate any help because I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

Please post over in the Security forums for help with the viruses: System Security - Windows 8 Forums
The viruses have to be cleaned before we can fix any BSOD's (and often cleaning the viruses off will stop the BSOD's).

If the BSOD's continue after the virus problems are fixed, then feel free to post back here with this info: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

I've read that you used to be able to go to Tools > Settings in Windows Defender and schedule periodic scans. However, in Windows 8, the Tools menu is gone! I see nothing about this in the Settings section. I've also tried to set this up in Task Scheduler, but I don't know the proper command and...

Running out of memory when running overnight. in Performance & Maintenance
First let me say, I rarely leave my 8.1 system running all night as I generally switch off before bed. On the FEW occasions I leave the system running all night I always get the "Your computer is low on memory" warning. For instance, yesterday my software RAID mirror was "Re-synchronizing"...
I'm using Windows Defender, and I believe it's causing freezes on my system. What's happening is that I'll notice my system freezing, and I see a little black clock on the notifications flag which says "scheduled scan." If I do almost anything with the computer, it will freeze. If I do a...
