Solved No Dump Files Found/IEdiag not working

Hi y'all,

My IEdiag utitility does not work. I checked run as an administrator. The App which brings me to a cmd prompt starts to run and then shuts down, with an error beginning with unhandled exception.

There may be a dump file related to this problem located in desktop, name system folder/App Data/Local/Crash dumps. There are four dmp files belonging to iediagcmd.exe. I see crash dumps files in the crash dump folder but both W8 log collector and SF diagnostic tool post the message "Sorry No Dump Found". (Screenshot attached)

Are the files I see in the Crash Dump folders phony files? Or is the non working IEdiag utility the reason why the W8 log collector of SF can't find dump files?

I am trying to get my system reports together to ask about event warnings and errors. I updated my bios in April from F.23 to F.26 and the F.26 bios version no longer appears on HP drivers and downloads page. It has been removed. Now the most current bios is F.24. I have had some freaky events in the Event Viewer, like event id 7000 2,300 times within minutes. I have a new HP Envy dv6.

Do you know what I am missing with the dump log data? What am I failing to do? I hope the SF attachment works. Thanks in advance!

They're different dump files. The dump files that we look for are those that point to BSOD issues. The one's that you found are most likely dumps from user level processes (application crashes). I'm not a application expert, but will do my best with these.

Please zip up and upload the dump files from the Crash Dump folders - that'll give us the best info for starters.

The upload doesn't have anything in it. Please rerun the BSOD data collection app again and let it run for 15 minutes (or until the app itself tells you that it's done). Then zip it up and upload it with your next post.

Also, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Thanks, usasma-

The Apps. Crash, SF, and Admin Events files have all been zipped. I will post the attachments in this post. I hope these files actually work. Must confess...I have little experience manipulating files, as you already, no doubt, suspect-given my first round with the SF attachment.

Subsequently, and unbelievably, I've learned my Send To/ Context Menu is missing. When I right click a file and point to Send To, there is no Compressed File option. Miserably,my only options are Documents and BD -Rom drive. This partly explains why I messed up with the SF attachment. The other part,of course, ignorance.

Today, I tried to obtain a compressed file option via an 8F tutorial: Send To Context Menu-Restore or remove Default Items. Even though I did not manage to succeed, a saga for a different thread, I believe I managed a workaround using file explorer Ribbons and clicking on New Folder. Then I made the new folder a Compressed new folder, I had this option using the Ribbon. And finally, I dragged the related files into their corresponding compressed folder. The folder zips the files. I think they may be ok, checking the file size. Still, I don't know anything about compressed files. If these are not correct I will try again, if you have the patience.

I don't think you'll see any Dump Files from the SF log. I got a "Sorry, No Dump Files Found " message. The rest seemed to fly.

The App Crash dump files are zipped in a folder on Skydrive. The file size is 13,563KB more than the max 8MB for zip files. I have uploaded the link about 10 times and I only get an upload error (Invalid File). I tried the link and it worked but maybe because it was my account? I'm probably doing something wrong. I searched the web and this forum and I have not found an answer about what to do. What do you advise? To be honest I have no experience with free file hosting.

Sorry for another ripple in collecting the logs. Two attachments here. One pending...

We can mess with this until the cows come home - but you have to wonder how much time you want to spend on this. If you continue to discover missing items from the OS, you've gotta wonder if the OS is seriously damaged and if the damage is serious enough to warrant a Refresh/Reset of the OS.

All of the Application crashes fault KERNELBASE.dll - a Windows component.
I'd start by running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an Elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.
Then I'd move on to a Refresh of the OS if that doesn't work.
Then I'd backup your stuff and do a Reset if that doesn't work.
Then I'd wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install of Win8 from the recovery disks if that doesn't work.

Yesterday, I ran sfc /scannow resulting with the screen message,"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." In turn, I ran the Restore Health (DISM) tool following the Win8 Tutorial-"How To Use DISM." Apparently, this did the trick and nicely took care of the corrupt files, although IEdiagCmd still crashes most of the time.

I'll try again to recover my Send To/Context Menu using the tutorial. I ran a chk /f/r last month, no bad sectors. I'll do another one, soon, to confirm.

Of course I hope my OS isn't seriously damaged, or will be soon by more corruption. I'm not unhappy with how my notebook is running, I'm just confused. I'll probably do a refresh, reset, or restore in the near future. Just want to explore my new notebook, as is, a little longer before I go looking at what's behind door number two.

I'll send a CBS file copy to wrap up (letting go of the app.crash,chase).
Thanks a lot for your help usama, I really appreciate the time you gave.:)

I'm not real good w/CBS logs - but it seems that this one doesn't have any issues.
Good luck!
