    BSOD - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (iAstor.sys)


    Hi I bought a Dell Inspiron 15z at BestBuy this past April. My wife put the laptop to sleep and after that the screen is black. It was difficult to get it off from sleep. We did a cold reboot, and it kept saying the PC ran into a problem with a sad face. I hate that face now. I tried to go on safe mode (all types), but would not let me through. I called Dell and Bestbuy and they all ran the diagnostic tests. They said that the computer hardware passed the tests.

    I keep getting this error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (iAstorA.sys). error code 0xc0000001. I am waiting for Dell to send me the Factory disks.

    I want to be able to keep important files if possible.

    Sigh... Any input would be helpful.

    Since this system is still under warranty, let's see what we can do.
    As for the system having passed the diagnostics - there are no tests that will 100% test the functions on the motherboard.

    The first step is to backup any data that you want to save. BestBuy will do this for you, but will charge you for it.
    It appears that you have an external USB drive, so just copy the contents of the C:\Users folder to the external hard drive (this is the easiest way but it takes up the most space).

    Your wireless Bluetooth is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?

    You have 2 memory dumps - a STOP 0x3B and a STOP 0xC2. There is also a STOP 0x117 listed in the WER section of MSINFO32 at the same date/time as the STOP 0xC2 error.

    I suspect a hardware problem - most likely with the video card (because of the STOP 0x117 and STOP 0xC2 that occurred at nearly the same time on 18 June). I'd suggest video card stress tests - but have to wonder if this will affect your warranty. BestBuy can run video stress tests (they use MSI Kombustor) - but even that may not give definitive results.

    I'd suggest asking to speak with a manager at BestBuy and explain the situation to them. Then politely ask for them to replace the system under the manufacturer's warranty/any extended warranty that you may have purchased. The point here is that further diagnostics on the system (in order to prove/disprove a hardware problem) will take a lot of time and labor - and will further deprive you of the use of the 2 month old system.

    Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

So this problem has just creeped up in the past couple days, and I'm not too sure what program or driver is causing the issue. WhoCrashed points to wdf01000.sys, but there's likely some other cause. Can you help?
