Brand new day-old HP Pavilion sleek BSODs, 3 times today.

Hi everyone.

Yesterday, I purchased a brand new HP Pavilion Sleek laptop. This morning, I turned it on for the first time, set it up, and synchronized my accounts as i was prompted. It was OK till then. I then opened up Internet explorer, went to Google chrome, and saw an option there to "add google to the desktop". upon clicking it, I found that chrome was in fact compatible with windows 8 and could be installed at once. So i installed it. Now, i started up chrome, and barely typed in my first search string before the computer BSOD-ed. It gave the following error:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
So, I went and looked that up, quite worried since the computer is brand new and was only operating for an hour before the error. No other apps or programs had been installed. No external drive of any sort had been connected. The device was not connected to a homegroup. So i searched and found a diagnostic program that yielded the following results when i scanned the minidump file.

You can see three dump files, since it has crashed three times today. The only program installed the entire day is Google Chrome, nothing else whatsoever has been changed. The problematic files shown appear to be ntoskrnl.exe and netr28x.sys. If anyone can help me, i would greatly appreciate it. I have attached a zip file from SF viewer below. Thanks!

With a "day old" computer and problems, I would take it back and get a replacement.

It may just be a bad load and a complete reinstall back to the factory image will take care of it. On the other hand it may be more and there is no good reason to fight a new PC that has problems.

Thanks guys. If I can't get it to work, i will probably do that. However, I would at least like to try to get it to work. Was anyone able to deduce what the problem is from the files and information i provided?

I didn't look at the zip file, but my original thought of a bad factory load is still my suggestion. Do a complete reinstall using the HP factory restore procedure. If that doesn't fix it, I would suspect some hardware problem.

Only 56 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

All 3 memory dumps blame your wireless network driver. Please:
- download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8 compatible wireless drivers from the manufacturer's website
- uninstall the current wireless drivers from your system
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Other programs that are "network aware" can also cause these problems - so it may take a while to pin down the actual cause.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanks, Usasma. So do I have to update EVERY single driver in that list, or just the red one? SRTSPX64.SYS? Because I just had my computer clean-formatted, and it BSODed yet again. That Symantec driver wasn't even on my computer, since I uninstalled it. Does uninstalling it not remove the driver?

EDIT: I am now 100% sure that the driver is not on my computer. I went and searched the system32/drivers folder and SRTSPX64 is just not there. Something else must be the problem. And by the way, when I tried to update netr28x.sys using the link you gave me, my wireless adapter stopped working. I had to restore the driver again.

The strangest thing is that the Adapter I am using right now, Ralink RT3290 802.11 bgn, has absolutely no available drivers on Ralink's website.
Another thing I noticed that ma have caused the problem was that it happened after I installed Google chrome. I used it for one full day without chrome, no BSODs. After I installed chrome... BSOD.
Yet ANOTHER thing I noticed was that it said on the chrome download page "Not available on Windows RT". Now I know that Windows RT is for mobile devices, but my card is Ralink RT3290... might it be that this card is not compatible with Google chrome? So far, after I uninstalled Chrome, I have had no BSODs... is Chrome the problem?

Nope, it BSODed THREE times after chrome was uninstalled. The Red driver in the analysis you provided, Usasma, was properly uninstalled and removed from the system (i.e. I properly uninstalled the Norton program using the driver). I've updated Windows to the point where there are no more updates available. I've tried updating the faulty driver netr28x.sys, to no avail. Where do you reckon I should go from here? In the formatting, they reinstalled windows 8 to the computer, why is it STILL BSODing?

BSOD's are tricky things at times.
The BSOD showed that the problem was with the network driver - but it's possible that anything that uses the network card (such as the Symantec program) could be causing it.

In order to rule out the network driver you need to:
- download a copy of the latest, Win8 compatible version of the network driver from the HP website (since RaLink offers no support/drivers for this device).
- uninstall the current network driver from the system.
- install the freshly downloaded driver
- monitor for further BSOD's
That should rule out any possible problems with the driver currently installed on your system.

If the BSOD's keep up after replacing the network driver - then the next step is to try Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

I list all the drivers simply as information - not for you to update.
I state what I think needs doing before you get to the list of drivers.
The extra information is of use to me (later on) if I have to review the system problems.
They also are a help to other analysts that might be reading this topic (that way they won't have to run all the reports themselves).
