Hello,
My laptop just started this after I installed Command and Conquer Generals (not a pirated copy, it is the actual disk I bought 10 years ago) and the computer worked fine for several hours then went to bed after shutting it off. Upon startup, the computer will not go to the normal metro screen just cycles back and forth between a black screen and blue metro screen with with just store and desktop on it. I have looked all over to what I need to do and got it into safe mode once. Then it starts up doing the cycle again and I can not get it out of safe mode. I have tried to refresh, reset and troubleshoot and get error code 80070490. I made a recovery disk previously and it does the same. Sorry but i can not do the create a dump file or SF diagnostic tool.

I finally got it to safe mode w/ networking and it is stable enough to run the sf diagnostic tool. Still will not allow me to refresh or reset.

The next time that you get into Safe Mode - Backup your data. There's no telling if this will end up being a hardware problem - or if it'll require wiping the hard drive.

Then, please run these free, bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics

The reports you uploaded weren't complete.
The next time you're able to get into Safe Mode, please run the data collection app again and let it run for at least 15 minutes (or until the app itself tells you it's finished).

The reports that were uploaded aren't very encouraging, and seem to indicate severe problems with the Operating System.
More info is needed so we can advise you on which direction to go from here.

Thanks for looking usasma. I have removed the old diagnostic zip and added the new one. I forgot to mention when I got into safe mode with networking, I kept getting explorer.exe unk hard error box. I uninstalled the C&C games since that is when all this stuff started happening and the explorer.exe is gone now. I ran chkdsk /r and it will let me get to hp recovery and i tried the system restore and it will not do it. I will do the initial hardware diag when i get home from work tomorrow ( I have no disc or usb thumbdrive with me.
