Windows 8 BSOD Kernel Security

New install of Windows 8 Professional on my homemade computer. Has seven on it as well, on a different HDD, but it's been having BSOD issues too. I believe they're seperate issues. I hope I got the files uploaded right. As far as i can tell, like many others, my issues reside in the Wireless subsystem somewhere, but that's where my search dead-ended. If you need any system info, I can fill you in, but the program you had me download looked like it grabbed all that.

Thanks in advance,

Mason

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Only 55 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

E: drive has less than 10% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

Realtek RTL8192CU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter is installed (but I don't see the device in the systeminfo report):
I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win7/Win8 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7(and I suspect with Win8) - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7/Win8 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thank you very much. I have one quick followup question. My manufacturer doesn't have windows 8 as an option for drivers and other downloads, so would the windows 7 x64 option work? like for the bios stuff and drivers and etc. Also, most of my drivers are from the motherboard disc, so that explains the age.

I've also stopped using the usb wireless card, should i uninstall the drivers and other gobbledegook that was installed with it?

The via audio is an embedded system on the motherboard, and i can't find any documentation anywhere about which model to select in the downloads page.

I also downloaded a program called ATI HydraGrid, and it should have been a part of the catalyst install, but it wasn't. When i tried to open it after it installed, it told me to "Please install an ATI driver for your graphics card", even though i have one installed.

It's not a good idea to use Win7 drivers on a Win8 system if you're getting BSOD's.

A 2011 BIOS isn't all that old, but Win8 is much more tightly tied to the BIOS than Win7 was. But if the manufacturer doesn't have an update - then that's really all that you can do (short of replacing the mobo).

Try this driver for the JMicron RAID: JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.65_WHQL.zip (direct download - actual FTP site here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/SATA_Controller/Windows/ ) If it won't install by double-clicking on setup.exe - then try in compatibiiity mode for Win7

Try this for the audio drivers: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/v10_1200a.zip (direct download - actual HTTP page here: VIA Drivers Download - VIA Technologies, Inc. ) It looks like all 3 different types use the same driver package.

Try this USB 3.0 driver (it's newer than yours) - install using compatibility mode for Win7: Driver Details | Dell US

The ATI HydraGrid thing probably broke when you followed the instructions for removing the AMD OverDrive. Please uninstall it for now. If you want it back, please wait until the system has been stabilized (no more BSOD's) and then install a fresh copy of the entire Catalyst Software Suite and the ATI HydraGrid.

I haven't removed OverDrive yet. It just didn't install at all when i installed catalyst the first time and when i downloaded it and installed it separately, it doesn't detect an amd driver. there were a lot of steps and i haven't been able to get to them all.

I attached an updated set of files, hoping it will help.

Also, which BIOS should I use, the latest normal or the latest beta? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_IV_FORMULA/#support_Download_30

I had asked you to do this, have you done it?:

If not, please do so in order to remove all the possible problems that the extra AMD/ATI stuff may be causing. Feel free to reinstall it after we're done troubleshooting and the system is stable again.

Use the latest normal BIOS - there's no need to mess with experimental stuff while you're trying to solve the BSOD's.

In short the BSOD's report a buffer overrun - and the problems seem to be network based.
Yet the 3rd party drivers present in the dump (and the reports that you've submitted) only show possible 3rd party problems with the AMD Overdrive and the NEC USB 3.0 drivers (in the latest dumps). Just FYI - the VIA Audio drivers don't show in the most recent dump - so they're most likely ruled out as a problem.

Once these 2 problems are eliminated, we can move on to further troubleshooting.

I haven't had a BSOD in 30 Hours, and i haven't changed anything since. I'm inclined to wait and see if the system is stable. How do you judge system stability? Length of time without a crash, or just no red flags in the reports?

That's the problem, there's nothing that says "it's fixed"
Depending on the severity, I usually wait a week before thinking it might be fixed.
After 2 weeks I'm pretty certain that it is fixed.

It's been 10 days, thank you, it seems to be working. I am having one problem though, but luckily not a bsod problem. I have my xbox 360 plugged into my secondary monitor, and the audio from that monitor going into the line in jack on the rear of my pc. I use a turtle beach headset, if you're familiar with them, plugged into my computer's rear audio ports. I use that headset for both my computer and my xbox, however, since i installed the last via driver, the one you gave me, i believe, I can't use both the line in and the microphone at the same time. If one is useable, the other is "currently unavailable". Any help?

Unfortunately, I'm not real good with sound problems. My usual "solution" is to replace the sound card - not real elegant, but at least it gets the sound back :9)

I'd suggest that you post over in the Sound & Audio forums for some more expert advice: Sound & Audio - Windows 8 Forums
