Hi Guys

Hope ive got everything here.

The machine has been built for a few months, and it was only until recently we observed it restarting overnight on a regular basis.

Spec below:

Asus Z77 Sabertooth Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
Corsair Vengeance RED 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R)
Intel 520 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced USB3.0 Dominator Case - Black/White
Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2)
Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK)
Coollaboratory Liquid Pro Liquid Metal Thermal Paste

The computer can be idling or downloading overnight. It is left on virtually all the time due to it being the main media machine for the house. We have various devices which use it's shared hard drives for media, music, movies etc to Playstations 3's.

So far i have performed the following

Check Disk within windows, it found some error on one drive, which were corrected, but it still restarted overnight last night (i checked the up time within windows task manager). Again, it was about 03:00.

I'm currently running driver verifier, and will let it run overnight to see if it has picked up anything I have created a restore point.

A windows memory test came back clean, with no issues.

Ive checked temps and have never seen above 40c in a 24 hour period, during peak load when doing some video encoding, it peaks at 60c, sometimes higher.

Ive used bluescreen view and it found some drivers being the cause of the issue, though different every time.

ks.sys
ntoskrnl.exe+59769
ElbyCDIO.sys+d5bfb5c

I don't know how much confidence to place on these result, im hoping some here can help me get this resolved.

I've attached the required zip as instructed in the BSOD posting instructions, let me know if you need anything else.

Apart from these set 03:00 reboots, the machine actually runs really well, no hangs, slow downs, no driver issues, no device manager problems.

Ill check to see if i get it again tonight / tomorrow morning

Regards

For info

I ran driver reviver, and it found really old / ancient DRAM controller drivers, the software suite updated these, there were 7 in total:

DRAM Controller
Root Port 8
Xeon Chipset

And a few others, cant remember the names.

Again, ill watch it tonight with driver verifier running and see if it restarts, ive not seen the BSOD myself, all i know that it has restarted.

Regards

[EDIT]

Uploaded fresh set of data.

Event ID 41 is Windows saying it doesn't know why it shutdown.
Most common reasons are holding the power button down to restart or overheating (you will see it during some BSOD's, but it will be followed by the "BugCheck" entry).

There are enough signs here that that I have to wonder about this installation. Should this be a pirated copy of Windows, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

You have 4 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

2 of the 3 memory dumps tend to suggest issues in the storage sub-system. I see that you're using Paragon Software Group Partition Manager - have you been actively manipulating partitions? A long time ago I had problems when doing this, so I stopped using partitioning software (except when first installing Windows).

Have you run hardware diagnostics on ALL the hard drives? If not, please do so. Here's a link to diagnostics: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

The machine was built by a local PC builder so don't know if it is or not, and we did pay to have Windows 8 on rather than Windows 7, so if this is the case, i will get the builder to rectify this and get them to pay for a new OS!

Regards the power supply, its a:

Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK)

Hard Drives I have are:

Intel 520 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB (this is partitioned (GPT) so each family member has their own space)
Samsung SSD 840 series

Driver reviver did not find any further updates, i manually checked the SSD's and they are all up to date.

Just been running a memtest86 on each DIMM and it found one DIMM full of errors. Been running them everytime ive been placing them back in one by one to re-rest as a group, so far so good.

If this turns to to be the issue, ill get it back to the builder / retailer and get them to replace it, as well as the OS.

I will keep you posted to check if it happens again tonight.

Regards

This is a suspicion about the Windows being genuine - it is by no means definite.
But it's worth exploring with the system builder.

Do you have a genuine Microsoft certificate on the case?
You may also want to check with Microsoft ( How to know you're buying genuine Windows - Microsoft Windows )

Enterprise versions are typically used by large business' - not by individuals. And the installation criteria is also a bit different.

Although I'm concerned about the OS, it's most likely that the memory problem is the cause of the problems here.
Test the system thoroughly after removing the faulty RAM modules - to ensure that no other problems exist.
