I'm using Kolor Autopano Pro, on W8 Pro. In this application there is a 'Select images' control which opens an explorer window to choose the images for a pano.

Often it crashes with an exception c0000374, as follows:

In particular it crashes if I scroll the window rapidly while the thumbnails are still being populated.
If I scroll it one row at a time to the very end, such that all the thumbnails (from DNG, JPG and TIF files) are filled in then I can use the slider to scroll rapidly up and down the window, no problem at all. Cycling through the different 'view' options is fine.

If I use the slider to scroll the window while the thumbnails are still being updated it crashes. Sometimes it crashes if I cycle through the 'view' options before the thumbnails are complete.

I suspect that this is really explorer.exe that crashes, but called by Autopano.

I have checked the HDD for errors. I have copied all the files off it, formatted it and put them all back. I have run sfc /scannow. I have checked the SMART data for the drive. I have run memtest86.

Since there are many thousands of image files on that drive the thumbnail data seems to be discarded by Windows, such that re-opening the file selection dialog often has to re-populate them from scratch.

Scrolling a vanilla explorer window in the same way doesn't make anything crash, even though it takes a while before all the thumbnails are done.

I can see some very similar exception details via Google, but with numerous apparent explanations.

I have full dumps turned on, and I have passed one to the author of Autopano Pro. However, it isn't clear whether this is simply explorer.exe or the caller who is at fault, I'm leaning towards explorer...

Any ideas?

This is what the window looks like when the application crashes - I've scrolled down using the slider, but only half the images have had a thumbnail filled-in:

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (even though you're not reporting BSOD's): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Also, Please do the following (preferably immediately after the app crashes - it'll be easier for me to scan):
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

My original Windows 8 install was an upgrade from 7 with the user data and applications preserved.

Today I decided to try a clean install, after imaging the current one.

I installed from DVD, and tried to keep everything as slim as possible. Just Photoshop, Autopano, Aftershot Pro, Picasa and some other odds and ends. In order to see thumbnails for DNG and PSD files in the file system I installed the FastPictureViewer codecs as before.

So far everything is working fine. Thumbnails still take a while to populate, and indeed it seems to forget them at the drop of a hat, but the symptoms relating to the original post are absent.

I was quite surprised at how different a vanilla install looks - I guess I'd got used to my machine over three years of Windows 7 and then 8 with it looking the way it did. I've put Start8 back on, naturally :)

So thanks for the offer of assistance, but I'm hoping that this has fixed it...
