Hi

I am new here, though I have lurked for a while reading other threads for info etc.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with BSOD I been having at start up it does not happen every time but I cant seem to find out what is causing it. Its a new build I recently put together and everything seem to work great once the pc is running, it has never crashed out while playing games or general use, only during start up. The PC is not and has not been overclocked, and I ran memtest for a few hours and got no errors, so I dont think the fault is there, I have updated the bios of my motherboard and all the drivers, but it is still happenening and I really would like to get to the bottom of it.

I have attached the system info file as requested in the forum post for someone to have a little look, if I need to post any other information please let me know, I will sort it out

I hope someone can interpret the info and point me in the right direction.

Thanks

John

I have tried several drivers over the last day or two, and tried to update my motherboard to the latest intel drivers, it continues to have the same crashes at boot up.

The boot dumps seem to have different drivers causing problems.

I am going to run memtest on single ram sticks to see if they show up errors, I have attached another file with updated dmps etc.

Ok, I have now ran memtest on single sticks of ram, 3 passes each, with no errors, must be an issue elsewhere. Hmmm this issue is baffling me, I am going to try to uninstall my anti virus see if its an issue there.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I've been sick for the last week with the flu.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard! I STRONGLY suggest not using controller drivers older than mid-2012 with SSD's.
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
05 Jan 2013 - very interesting post about difficulties with the Marvell controllers even when not connected to the SSD drives: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...ndows-8-x64-pc-reboots-when-waking-sleep.html
27 Feb 2013 - I'm starting to see much better reliability with SSD's using current (mid-2012 and later) storage drivers. I have withdrawn my objections to using these devices in everyday systems.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi

Thank you for the reply, just wanted to update where I was with this. I have re installed windows, removed all usb devices apart from keyboard and mouse. I have then reinstalled all window updates and only the motherboard, graphic card and sound drivers, including lan/wifi and bluetooth.
With only these devices installed the pc can run with driver verifier running with no crashes for over an hour (which is the time I gave it)
I then installed my rat 7 mouse driver and the pc bsod during boot with driver verifier running (will attach crash dump later, when home), I removed this driver from the system and it ran again with driver verifier running with out a problem.

I will test it with the logitech keyboard tonight to see how I get on.

Would you think that the fact it seems stable without any third party drivers installed that it rules the ssd out as incompatible? I will of course test more and report back.

Thank you very much with your previos time and help

John

I have fewer concerns about SSD's than I did back when I wrote the canned speech. I still post it because I do find issues with older storage controller drivers and outdated firmware.

Driver Verifier isn't a stability test - it's a test that stresses certain functions of drivers. That being said, such a drastic change with the rat 7 drivers would suggest to me that there's a problem with those drivers.

Please zip up and upload the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump so we can verify that the memory dumps blame the rat 7 drivers.

This is a Driver Verifier memory dump. Interestingly, it doesn't blame any 3rd party drivers - rather it blames one of the Windows USB drivers. Since you asked Driver Verifier to verify 3rd party drivers, this would suggest to me that it's either a hardware problem or a Windows problem.

The hardware problem can be either one of your USB devices - or the USB plugs/controllers in your system. The test for this is to remove all USB devices to see if that stops the BSOD's. Since you'll still need a keyboard and mouse, use one of each from a system that isn't having problems. Test as long as it takes to rule out the BSOD's (in your case I'd suggest a full day or two).

Double check to ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates. Your system has 58 updates, while most new systems have 66 or more (I've seen up to 80).

Don't forget to turn Driver Verifier off. To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings", then click on "Finish". Reboot in order for the changes to take affect.

Hi
Just to let you know what was happening, I did some tests swapping my keyboard and mouse to different usb sockets, and had intermittent results, I spoke to the retailer and have sent the board back for RMA.
They have confirmed a fault with the USB dropping out, not sure what they mean, but its defo the board, so waiting on a replacement.

Thank you again for all your help with my issue you have been a great help.

John
