For a while now my computer has been crashing on and off. I just upgraded to windows 8, so I no longer have the old crash dump files. For about 3 months it would crash at least 2 times a day. Then for about 3-4 months, there would be no crashes at all and now it started crashing again

I noticed when i took off my side panel with my fan that it would crash less (maybe once a day) and when i put it back on it crashes like once every two to three hours. This could be a coincidence, however I have tested this for about a week and it does keep happening.

Back when I had windows 7 i ran several memtest+ 86 runs and even had my ram RMA'd. Also I upgraded my power supply and ran several tests on my hard drive using the hard drive tools found on the manufacturers website

Thats all the information I can think of right now, Ill add more if i remember.

Thanks for any help in advance

Your BIOS dates from 2010. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

You have the 2005 version of the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver (ASACPI.sys). It is a known cause of BSOD's in Windows systems and must be updated. You'll find it listed as "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" and it's the 14th item down in the Utilities section of the downloads for your motherboard.

The motherboard isn't supported with Win8 - so you'll have to run the installer for the driver in compatibility mode for Win7.

Your wireless XBox controller is also known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems. Unfortunately there are no updated drivers for this device (xusb21.sys). In order to test it, please uninstall the software and physically remove the device from your system.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

My bios version is already up to date (version 2102). I updated my sound drivers and asus atk0110. I have also uninstalled my xbox wireless controller and uninstalled it from the device manager.

I will put my desktop cover back on and plug the fan back in and see what happens. Ill wait a few days and see if stops crashing, otherwise I will put up a reply if I crash again
