My very own win8 bsod thread.

Did the grab all thing, attached file. I should point out that these bsods seem to happen quite randomly, with no discernible pattern....

    Thanks

All BSOD's are related to ntkrnlmp.exe. This looks like file system issue.

Open the elevated Command prompt and run chkdsk C: /r /f to detect and fix NTFS file system issues.
After Chkdsk, Open elevated Command prompt, Run sfc /scannow

Please report back and let us known !!!

Ok. Tried that this morning, but it seemed to freeze at 27%. As I'm having a houseful today, I'll set it up to run overnight and see if it still stalls at 27, or if it eventually makes it past that. I'll report back tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

On running sfc /scannow, I got this.

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
    (c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Users\Pops>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

Please run sfc again until you get a message: Windows did not find any integrity violation

EDIT: In WinXP, there's a log file for chkdsk but there's no log file in newer version. Forgot to mention that chkdsk takes a long time to complete:
    1. /f fixes the disk and try to recover any lost files
    2. /r does surface scan and record any bad areas on the hard disk to the Master File Table (MFT) so Windows will not use these areas.

Also, if I may be so bold, I'd like to know how one reads those .dmp files...???

No problem. You need to download Windows Debugging Tools:
Download and Install Debugging Tools for Windows

With this tool, you can read the dump files. However, it only gives a glue of how it gets BSOD but it does not really tell you exactly what the problem is.

    Hope this helps !!!
