No BDOS but constant crashes and boot problems

No BDOS as the computer crashes, turns off the monitor, HDDs stop, and it just stays this way.

My computer periodically crashes and won't boot -- more specificially, it'll post, show the Windows 8 logo then the screen turns off, the keyboard is still backlit, but the HDD stops and it just stays in stasis.

What I typically do is run a system restore and it'll work for an hour ago... sometimes.

I have to go through this 3 to 4 times a day. Plus, sometimes after a period of not being used, it'll crash within a minute of being used again.

I'm open to any suggestions :/

Please help!

Let's try booting in safe mode to see if it boots normally:
Win+C->Settings->Power , Hold down SHIFT Key, click Restart ->Trouble Shoot->Advanced Option->Safe Boot

If it does then temporarily uninstall AVG completely then reboot again.

Please report back then we'll go from there !!!

It boots with no problem 25-30% of the time. I'm currently on it. I've uninstalled AVG.

I don't believe that AVG could be the problem as this issue has persisted before I installed AVG. Is there any way to troubleshoot to see what keeps causing the system failure? It seems to bypass the BSOD completely and just crap out. (I've installed Windows multiple times and it seems to work fine until I install Nvidia drivers. Sometimes it crashes then, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, I create a system restore from that point. Is there any way to check to see if it's still the video drivers at this point?)

AVG is known to cause problem with hang/BSOD due to incompatibility and that's why I suggest you to uninstall it. In your case, there's no short way to troubleshoot the problem since we have no dump file to analyze, so this is gonna be a process of isolation the problem by trying different things. Here are some possibilities:
  1. Outdated BIOS and drivers. In this case, make sure you have up to date BIOS and Drivers installed. I noticed that the Network controller driver dated 9/12/2011. Go to ASUS website to check the latest drivers for your Laptop Model. Download and install
  2. Your Laptop might be over heated due to inadequate air flow. This will cause the system to shutdown/reboot, open the bottom of the PC and clean.
  3. You have 24GB RAM installed. There might be some bad spots in one of those stick, run memory test using Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
  4. Your HD might have some bad spots that would cause corrupted system files.
    run chkdsk /r /f C:
  5. Some of your system files might be corrupted due to sudden reboot. Open elevated command prompt and run: sfc /scannow . You might have to run this command multiple times until you get a message: Windows did not find any integrity violation

Good luck and please report back your progress.
