BSOD System Service Exception

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

There is a recent Windows update that fixes issues with AMD processors that "might" help. Unfortunately I deleted the email with the link to the topic, so I can't pull it up. It was posted by auggy at the Microsoft Technet forums and I gave it a "Helpful reply" comment this morning (if you care to search for it).

Also, I've found several problems with the HD audio component in AMD/ATI drivers recently. So I wonder if the "Drivers Only" installation posted at this link might help: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

EDIT: Thank goodness for the History feature. Here's the link to the KB article about the AMD update: A microcode update is available for Windows 8-based computers that use AMD processors

Interesting. I checked my Windows Update history, and it appears that KB2818604 (The microupdate for AMD processors) had been installed one day prior (February 26th) to when I was still having BSOD's and thus uninstalled the KB2778344, so it looks like that update actually didn't fix the issue for my hardware (even if it does mention that it's for "AMD C-Series Processor with AMD Radeon HD Graphics."

As for the Driver Only installation you mentioned, I can't do that (at least not in the way that post states) because this graphics adapter doesn't use the "
generic ATI drivers." In fact, the drivers I have for the AMD C-70 APU with HD Radeon 7290 drivers are available only from the Acer website; they don't even exist on AMD's website (go figure).

However, I think that the installers for the drivers I have actually have the option of omitting the HD Audio Drivers, but aren't those the one for the HDMI? If so, I wouldn't want to do that because I do use the HDMI port.

Maybe I'll try reinstalling KB2778344 just to see if KB2818604 really does fix the issue.

    Thanks for the help guys.

You can install without the HDMI stuff to see if that helps (just temporarily - for testing).
Then you'll know if it's the cause of the BSOD or not.
Then you can go ahead and install everything if you'd like.

Yeah, good idea. Agh but I don't want to see any more BSOD's .

I might just be lazy and not do anything since even if the HDMI driver is the issue, I'd have to re-install it anyway to use the HDMI port and then keep KB2778344 supressed.

I'll post here if I try it though.
