Hi. I installed windows 8 on my cumputer around a month ago, and since a few weeks back i have had some random bsods when watching videos. Mostly when i watch videos that is stored localy, but there have been one or two crashes when streaming too.

I have tried to upgrade to the latest AMD beta graphics drivers, that didnt help, so now i have downgraded to the latest stable release.

It's not the same BSOD everytime either, but hopefully we can find a solution to my problems.

My PC have the followin specs:
Motherboard: MSI P45 Neo-F
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200@2.33GHz
Memory: 2GB DDR2 memory
Graphics: Radeon HD5770 1GB

Hi there, as you rightly said, the BSODs are due to multiple reasons.
First of all, there are few very outdated system drivers which require an update. You will get these drivers via Windows Update hence make sure Windows is up to date. Check for updates and install all new updates.

Then update you ATI video driver from here: AMD Catalyst

In case you already tried that driver, then uninstall all ATI driver let Windows Update find the driver for you.

In addition to that, run system file checker to check/repair system file integrity.

Also, run a full system scan using the built-in Windows Defender as well as Malware-Bytes Free.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks for your help.

Windows update was unable to find any newer system drivers. Can you point out the outdated drivers so i can do manual updates on those?
The system file checker, found some faults that it did repair. And I had no malware on my drives.

However the computer seems to work better now, no new crashes sofar atleast.

So once again thanks for the help :)

Have you setup RAID by any chance?

My computer worked good for about a week, then i started to have problems again.
The weird thing is that it's only during video playback from the computer, i can stream and it works fine. I also use this computer for 3D Modelling and photo editing without any crash ever, should'nt that stuff be more likely to cause crashes than when i play video?

And i also managed to get updates for some outdated intel controllers, but that did'nt help at all.

I still get BSOD's when watching video, only local video files. No problems during streaming.
My computer works great if i run Windows 7 which i have on dualboot (2nd hdd) So basicly the only thing that should differ between my OS's is which harddrive they are installed on. Other than that, hardware and drivers, should be more or less the same.
The HDD windows 8 is installed on is quite old, and have been running 48+k hours. So maybe it starting to brake down, but shouldn't i get more crashes than just video playback then?

Not sure what I can do now, other than try and reinstall W8. Or do a clean install of W7 on my other hdd.
