I'm getting the Event 41 error when playing Battlefield 3 and Tribes Ascend. However, tonight I was getting Appcrash for Tribes Ascend that pointed to KernelBase.dll, so I reinstalled the game. When attempting to download the game, my system automatically rebooted. I have never gotten this error (Event 41) while in the Desktop. The error always occurred about 5-10 minutes in a game. I get no BSOD and I cannot get a minidump file to be created. Interestingly, the computer rebooted even though I have that option unchecked in Startup and Recovery. I've updated my video card drivers to 310.90 and my Realtek ethernet and sound card drivers. I thought it was overheating so I installed Furmark and Intel Burn Test, but my temperatures were in range with specs.

I may have found the problem. I was looking in event viewer more thoroughly and found Event 35 category 2 error which reads, "Performance power management features on processor 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware." I would update my firmware, but I don't have a Floppy drive. Can I use a USB drive?

Well, I've finally flashed my motherboard's BIOS to version 17 from version 11. However, I still get Event 41 errors with no dump files.

Any more of the Event 35 category 2 errors after updating the BIOS?

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (even though you're not having BSOD's): https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cr...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Also, If possible, please:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Please use this free utility to monitor your temps: HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools
Let us know what it says just before the system throws an Event 41 error and reboots.

Thanks for the reply.

I have to tell you that when I first tried to install Windows 8 about three weeks ago, I was getting a lot of errors during the install process. So bad, that I couldn't even install Windows 8. I then ran Memtest86+ and found a stick RAM that received 1060 errors about 30 to 40% of PASS 1. The other stick had no errors after two passes. I did check the other ram slot to see if the slot itself was bad. It wasn't. The bad stick has now been RMA'ed to G.Skill.

The Event 35 error seems to be associated with Speed Step. I enabled that feature in the BIOS and haven't encountered the error after that.

I have uploaded two files: the Event Viewer file you requested and the log file from HWMonitor. I was playing Tribes Ascend for about 5 minutes before Event 41 occurred.

Temps are a bit toasty on the GPU, but not (IMO) excessively so.
There are issues with the system loading too many dll's - I'd suggest using a couple of free scans from here to check for malware (in case your current protection has been compromised): Free Online AntiMalware Resources

If you're malware free, then try this:
- open up the case
- point a house fan into the case from about 2' away - turn it on high
- play Tribes Ascend and see if you get it go longer before hitting the Event 41 error

I got my RMA'ed RAM stick back from G.Skill. I tried the online virus scans, but none would finish before Event 41 would occur, even in Safe-mode. I then decided to test my old stick of RAM with Memtest86+ 4.20. The test would lockup after a certain amount of time, even though weeks prior, the stick would complete two passes of Memtest86+. I then replaced that RAM stick with the new stick and played Tribes Ascend. I incurred no Event 41 errors. The game played till I quit after an hour. So the old stick will be RMA'ed and hopefully that will be the end of the dreaded Event 41. Thank you for all the assistance you provided.
