That means there's one device in your system does not have a driver, it will not crash your system but it makes that device unusable. Can you right click on it and click on Update Driver to see if Windows can identify and update it.

If it cannot identify the device, press Win+X->System then click on Windows Updates then Check for updates to see if Windows Updates can detect the driver for it.

BTW, does your system crash anymore ?

I've done both of those update techniques but Windows still can't find it... very puzzling

I will tell you if it crashes again. The time between the crashes usually ranges from 1-17 days so I will keep you updated. Thanks for all your help with the crashes!

Unknown Driver is hard to identify because they don't tell you which device associated with it. However, another technique is to download a trial version of any driver scanner, for example: Uniblue DriverScanner 2013 - Download Software, Update PC Drivers and install it then run. It will tell you which driver needs to be updated but it won't update for you since it's a trial version but at least it will help you to identify the driver which you can download and install it yourself.

The software just told me that all of my driver are 'ancient' which I know is not the case with all of them that it said (I updated my graphics card driver very recently) and didn't really help me to find out what the 'Unknown Device' is... do you have any other suggestions?

Uninstall Driver Scanner then try Driver Genius
and that's all I can think of for now.

By any chance, did you also install the chipset drivers for your MB ?

I'm slightly wary of some of the driver softwares. I think the problem is with a USB device; not the motherboard due to this:Attachment 15674

I look at another link ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M5A78L-M/USB3 and the chipset driver they use is the same version, however they don't have an updated driver for Windows 8 yet but you can use the driver for Windows 7 instead. If you decide to install the Windows 7 chipset driver, either make a backup system image or create a restore point first just in case anything goes wrong then you can reverse back.

I also think this unknown driver is for the USB3 ports on your MB so once you install the chipset driver, the unknown device will goes away. However, if you are not using any USB3 device then just leave it alone until they have an update for Windows 8.
