Hello everyone,

I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my laptop (i like it so far), and sometimes (randomly) the BSOD with the description Watchdog Violation appears. Sometimes it is once a couple of days, but today it has already appeared 3-4 times. I tried to update every device driver through the Device Manager, but it seems that all drivers are up to date. Hope for your help and thank you in advance.
Have a nice day.

The dump file blames Avast anti-virus. Please:
- download a fresh copy
- uninstall the current copy
- install the fresh copy
- update the virus definitions
- perform a full system scan

Also, Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I strongly suspect that this holds true for Win8 systems also.
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Most likely an ASUS Process Creation/Termination Observer program. Unfortunately it's not listed in the reports, but here's what I extracted from the dump file:

Thank you for you help, but it seems, that I fixed it myself. Windows showed me 3 BSOD within 15 minutes, so Windows proposed me to 'refresh it' so I did (delete all third party applications and drivers). Afterwards I have installed all the latest drivers from ASUS website for windows 8. I have installed AVAST as well. It showed me one more BSOD with definition *something* (aswnet.sys),as far I can see you have found it as well. I googled it and it appears to be some kind of AVAST driver malfunction, which is very 'popular' on windows 8, I have downloaded temporary fix file. Windows did not crashed so far. Hope it won't. But once again thank you for your help.
