BSOD and display problems

Hi, I have a laptop with a clean install of Windows 8 Pro x64 and have been having problems with it from the start.

The problems I've noticed are:

Flickering screen - an on and off-problem mostly occuring on the login screen, desktop and browser (Chrome). I remember I had this problem when I first installed windows 7 two years ago, but somehow found a way to fix it.

Dispay drivers stop responding and recover from time to time, giving a black screen for a second.

Screen freeze occurs every now and then, and I have to restart manually.

BSOD, mostly DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, but some others too (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE amongst others).

There also seem to be some problems with windows update, however I am not sure if these are relevant.

My laptop is quite old (4 years) but I have never had any serious problems before and was hoping to be able to keep it for six more months.
Information about the laptop:
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P9500 @ 2.53GHz 2.53GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Original OS was Windows Vista, OS now is downloaded from MSDN and installed via bootable usb. The last installation was performed yesterday and the only new programs installed are Chrome.
If needed, I'll find out information about the MotherBoard, System Manufacturer and model number.

Note: The computer works fine in Safe Mode.

I'm hoping that someone could give me some hints on what is wrong, and are grateful for all input.

Hi, I have updated some of the drivers, run a memory and disk check and none of them have any errors. Can anyone help me or suggest things I should check?

Attached is updated SF and perfmon.
