I know his problem is different, but he did eventually get his locked drive to work again. But, if you are satisfied that the thread won't help you, then so am I. I have not gone back through the thread in detail. Yes, I see what you have now. When I get properties for my ISO, I see what's below. So, yes, you do have the setup.exe file--and apparently did not save the ISO when installing. As mentioned, it is possible to "redownload" the ISO, but I can't direct you to the related tutorial right now; the link is not working for me at this time. But, if you can get the ISO, then you can create an install DVD or create an install flash drive with it. See the warning on the link about creating a flash drive if running under UEFI (not sure whether you are or are not).

Okay I got the install media and from the included boot repair it does say my HDD is locked. I looked on the thread and I don't see anywhere he unlocked it, he reformatted his HDD unless I'm misunderstanding? https://www.eightforums.com/general-d...tml#post168913

The user above also claims his unlocked spontaneously.

I am not sure how his drive got unlocked. Are you saying that you now have the ISO? Have you been able to get you files off your drive? If you can, I would do so ASAP.

Yes I have now formatted the drive, after making essential backups. I have also made a 40GB partiton for Windows, is this big enough for Windows? I will likely install programs to the other larger partition as I have many games.

40GB should be plenty. The recommendations I have seen are 20GB for 64 bit/16GB for 32 bit. Good luck with your installation.

Man it won't let me install now, it just says unable to install to selected location. I looked it up and apparently I need to disconnect all my other hard drives so the one I want to install Windows to is 'disk 0', not 'disk 1'. seriously now? What is wrong with Microsoft? This is a serious pain. You don't have to do this rubbish on any Linux OS.

I think your string of difficulty is unusual, but, yes, some Win8 problems are nightmare like. Hang in there.

Thanks, I know I should not get so mad but everyone in the house looking at me to blame, and me to fix the problem.

Even though it clearly was the last update which broke it.

Okay I've installed windows 7 after removing my Linux hard drive. I think I will stick with 7 until there is a service pack.

Thank you again for your help and patience Zmod.
