Win8 Stuck Repair Bootloop - No Safe Mode / Refresh/ Reset

Hi there , i know that there are a few threads posted about this problem but OP's never post enough info on the problem , after fiddling with the startup options and the general recovery process im going to post here before trying a clean install , i need to get to the bottom of this!

    A Quick overview :

I made a clean install for windows 8 through my USB (used the windows 7 tool for that) , installed windows 8 without a single problem , used it for 3 days straight without any problems (some minor freezes here and there) , games were working fine and 3D applications (Maya , Unity3D..etc) worked fine. I updated my Windows to the latest update (some drivers were included through the update) , the night before this nightmare started i turned it off and went to sleep , next morning i woke up turned it on but i had to leave so i turned it off on the lock screen (before logging in). turned it on later that night and this problem happend.

    Problem :

"Automatic Repair" saying "Automatic Repair Couldn't Repair Your PC".
    The file is "F:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt".

I went to advanced options and tried the following:

1- Restore from system point :

gave me an error that the system Protection service needs to be activated.

    2- CMD :

tried SFC / scannow and it gave me the same error above "system Protection service could not be started" .
tried chkdsk and it said that no problems were found.

3- tried through advanced startup options

    * Safe Mode dosnt work , it will simply boot me back to automatic diagnostic running and takes me back to the first error posted here "
"Automatic Repair" saying "Automatic Repair Couldn't Repair Your PC"."

4- tried disabling automatic restart , dosnt work.

I booted from my USB drive again and tried everything posted above and same problem , nothing works , i cant refresh , reset or do anything else...

i tried everything humanly possible from the recovery console and nothing works , so im simply stuck in this crappy windows repair boot with no way out.. i am now using Windows 7 through my other hard drive and i have my Windows 8 drive connected (checked it for error and it returned back a healthy drive) but i did however find this log file on my Win8 drive (Windows\debug\WIA) , the text file is this "wiatrace" , it contained the following :

    **************** Started trace for Module: [sti_ci.dll] in Executable [setup.exe] ProcessID: [868] at 2013/01/12 23:53:29:863 ****************
    WIA: 868.872 0 0 0 [sti_ci.dll] ERROR: OnDIF_DESTROYPRIVATEDATA, Invalid argument.

    **************** Started trace for Module: [wiaservc.dll] in Executable [svchost.exe] ProcessID: [1556] at 2013/01/13 02:19:02:322 ****************

WIA: 1556.1596 3572 0 0 [wiaservc.dll] ERROR: USDWrapper::LoadDriver, We encountered an error attempting to load driver for (GT-I9100G), error (0x80070006)

does this mean that my Samsung GS2 drivers caused the problem?

I found no other logs , at least not that i know of... i really need to try and fix this but its not really a big deal if i have to clean install again since i have 4 different HDD's installed and i have a backup of all my files.. but i have to try and fix this so that people like me can fix this and of course have a way out personally if it happens again..

thank you for reading and ill be waiting for your replies...

    WIN 8

same thing happened to me... I bought a new hard drive, installed from the USB, and when I tried to activate WIN 8 the upgrade key wouldn't work. now I've spent a very very long time waiting for tech support (after they auto-called me back indicating that I was at the head of the line) and finally give up. looks like I'll have to waste all the work I've done setting up WIN 8, reinstall Win 7 and then upgrade again. That will probably take less time than actually getting reasonable help from Microsoft. Why don't I switch to Apple?

You dont really have to install Windows 7 and update again , just do a clean install from the USB after you format the HDD.
I would never switch to Mac OS even if it was the only OS available in the world , i have their products and services , marketing and business plan.. only OS i would switch to is Ubuntu but that won't happen untill all the games on Steam are supported there, then i will ditch windows..

    UPDATE :

I ended up clean installing again , first thing after getting back into a fresh install of windows 8 is i enabled system protection on my C: drive , now im trying to find the clone option to have a manual backup..

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

Type "Create a recovery drive" into the Start Screen
Click on the Settings charm in the charm bar.

This'll start RecoveryDrive.exe and will prompt you to create a USB recovery drive.

My issue is activating the clean install of Win 8. I upgraded from Win 7 and I get an error message indicating that my upgrade key is not a valid key for a full, clean install. I think the problem is that I installed a new hard drive because I was afraid the Win 7 drive I was using was infected, which caused the complete failure of the Win 8 upgrade install. I can access the old drive through the new Win 8 clean install on the new drive, so maybe what I need to do is copy everything on the old drive, then try the clean install on the upgrade drive. I'll give that a try.

Using the Upgrade key for a clean install won't work , there are installation key's floating around the internet that you can use for the installation part and then once your inside Windows activate with the key you bought...

I wouldn't keep upgrading from Windows 7 , i hate the whole upgrade concept i always go for clean installation every time..

Thanks @usasma , i searched around the OS and found it..

What's weird is that i made a system restore point after i logged in the first time (i enabled system protection) but when trying to use that point it says that i have no system restore points on my system.. windows 8 is really retarded..

pvkelsey - please start your own topic so that your issue can get the individual attention that it deserves.

FatalM - I've never been a big fan of System Restore, but really started to like it during the Vista/Win7 days. I haven't had an opportunity to use in Win8 yet, so my opinion of it remains to be seen. FWIW - I hated Win8 when it first came out in the Developer Preview and I continued to hate it until Nov/Dec of 2012. I only upgraded to it because I knew that I'd have to know it in order to keep helping out on the forums.

But since then, I've learned to accept it's little quirks - and to admire the changes that make it great. For example, when I was running Win7 I'd have to reboot every couple of days (I use sleep a lot). With Win8 I don't have to reboot but once every couple of weeks. Also, the changes to Task Manager continue to blow me away - and I'm finding more and more ways to use it each day!

Yeah true , i was really hesitant to upgrade but my friend kept telling me to do it , i was against the idea of an OS made and optimized for tablet instead of PC , then Gabe Newell came in with his own thoughts on the matter and it put me back again but then again he is a business owner and the Windows Store is a rival so i wouldn't expect anything less from him..

After trying it for 2 days i fell in love with how fast it is , then so is Windows 7 with a clean fresh install but Win8 is more consistent in that matter , i don't really care about the start menu because i never launched a program from the software list , only thing i used it for was for search and control panel and of course the shut down buttons.. I dont think i will be moving back to Windows 7 anytime soon , provided that i don't have the problem posted in my OP and of course more updates that fix things instead of ruining the OS..

I would like to thank you all again for trying to help me out on this problem , if i find a solution i will update this post..
