Hi.

I am having issues with the below event ID constantly showing up in Event Viewer. The system is operating okay, but I am not sure if its an error to ignore or not?

Thanks for your help.

It means that a program is passing the wrong command/parameter to a program. Since it's repeated, it's likely to be a scheduled program. Look in the Windows Logs...Application logfile and System logfile for problem items around the same time as the error.

For more info, Please provide this information (even though you're not experiencing BSOD's): https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cr...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

If possible, please also:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hi there,

Thanks for your response,

I have looked through the logs and the only error I can see around the same time is Kernel PNP. I have attached the requested log file.

Many thanks for your help.

I wonder about the Seagate Scheduler as I see lot's of errors for backgroundtaskhost.exe - but there's no firm link between the 2

Remove MSI Afterburner to see if it's causing problems (it causes BSOD's in some Windows systems) Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision use the same driver.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Lot's of these errors in the System logfile:

With 8 hard drives I have to ask if you think that 620 watts is enough to power the system? If there's doubt, disconnect several of the hard drives and see if performance improves.

Lot's of Windows Search errors - do you have customized indexing/searching going on?

Hi there,

Thanks for your response,

Firstly I am not sure why the log files are showing that I have 8 hard drives connected I have only ever had 3 hard drives permanently connected to the system since installing Windows Eight. Also the hardware setup is the same as what I was running on Windows 7 Ultimate. I am happy to go ahead and test all hard drives but wondered if you would be able to advise the best testing software my Corsair Force 3 120 SSD? Also can you see from the log which hard drive had errors present?

I also removed MSI burner a few weeks ago as I decided to return back to the ATI Catalyst Control Panel as I all I was using MSI burner for was to increase the fan speeds then I found out that ATI Catalyst Control Panel offers the same option.

I have now uninstalled BBCNewsMobile to see if it removes the error.

For the moment I have disabled the Windows Search service as I am running Windows 8 on my SSD so I doubt whether there would be much of an improvement with it enabled. With regards to the Seagate Scheduler this is showing as disabled in the Start-up option of Task Manager.

I am also going to turn off NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5 and install these again to see if this helps at all.

Thanks again for your continued help.

Hi there,

Just wondering if the logs showed any information as to which hard drive was showing errors present?

Many thanks for your help.

My Computer

All I got was HardDrive8 (also some 9 and 10 stuff on my second look).
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk8\DR28.
Maybe check in diskmgmt.msc to see which one is 8?
All I get from MSINFO32 is Disk 0, 1, and 2

Hi there,

Thanks for your response, I have checked all hard drives and they are testing fine. I have attached an overview of disk management showing which devices are always connected to the computer.

I've also included a new set of logs to see if there is any improvement with regards to the different errors? Also could you please advise if any hard drive errors are showing after mid December in the logs?

Hi

Many thanks for your response,

I have checked and Disk 8 its a flash drive. I will go ahead and test all my flash drives and see if any of them have errors present. Apart from the Disk 8 error is there any more errors that I should be conerened about e.g. the Microsoft Kernel Event Tracing Error that is constantly appearing?

Edit - Attached is a new set of logs, there seems to be more errors appearing, so I'm wondering if it would be best to start over again and reinstall everything.

Thanks again for your help.

Remove all external drives while we're testing - USB/Flash/etc.

Lot's of DCOM errors. I usually ignore DCOM errors - but there's so many here that I'm not sure that that's a good idea.
I don't know anything about DCOM, so I'd suggest checking over in the General forums for more assistance.
My suggestion is to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows - but that's a bit drastic without having looked at it further in the General forums.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Many thanks for your response,

I have reinstalled Windows 8 today as the system was crashing a lot. Could you please check the attached files and see how they compare to the previous ones?

Thanks again for your continued help.

My Computer

Around 9am yesterday (the 25th) there were multiple errors with a disk in your CD/DVD drive. I suspect that it has bad sectors and you may want to get a new copy of it.

Your system has crashed at least once - and this with a fresh install of Win8. It's either (IMO) a hardware problem or an incompatibility.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
29 May 2012 - The frequency of BSOD's with SSD's seems to have been decreasing over the last several months. It may be approaching time to re-evaluate my stand on their suitability for use in production systems.
10 Nov 2012 - I'm seeing an upswing in SSD errors - but most appear due to older storage controller drivers. I strongly suggest NOT using storage controller drivers that don't date from 2012 (if none are available, don't connect an SSD to that controller)
05 Jan 2013 - very interesting post about difficulties with the Marvell controllers even when not connected to the SSD drives: https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cr...-pc-reboots-when-waking-sleep.html#post169956

I do not have the dates on your storage drivers. Please check to make sure that the storage controllers (for the controller that your SSD is connected to) date from 2012 or later. If using a Marvell controller, please switch to another controller (the last I looked, there weren't any 2012 drivers for them).

Please start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Hi there,

Many thanks for your response,

I have tested the memory overnight and it showed no errors, I have also tested all hard drives in the pc and these are testing fine.

I have checked again regarding if there is a newer BIOS available for my motherboard and I have been informed that I have the latest one installed and that its unlikely that they will be making any more due to the motherboard being end of life. The maker of the SSD also confirmed that I am using the latest firmware for that drive. I am currently waiting for a response from Seagate regarding the other hard drives to see if they have any newer firmware than what I am currently using on the drives.

The system has never been overclocked, I simply use ATI overdrive for adjusting the fan speed of the GPU, I have not experienced any BSOD's since installing Windows 8 but instead lots of freezing etc.

Thanks again for your continued help in this matter.

Best regards,

Sorry for the delay. I have unsubscribed/resubscribed to this topic. I hope that fixes the notification problem.

Your screenshot does not show anything past Drive 6 - can you scroll down and get a screenshot view of Drive 8?

Found this error from 16 January:
Event[14505]:
Log Name: System
Source: disk
Date: 2013-01-16T19:28:00.877
Event ID: 11
Task: N/A
Level: Error
Opcode: N/A
Keyword: Classic
User: N/A
User Name: N/A
Computer: Living-Room
Description:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk8\DR8.
I'm wondering about problems with your Media Card Reader device. Can you easily detach it from the header on the motherboard?

FYI - I search the EventSys.txt file, from the bottom up - searching for "Level: Error" (without the quotes and with 1 space between the : and the E in Error)

Hi there,

Thanks for your response,

I have checked and the system is now showing only 7 drives connected as I recently reinstalled it. I think the errors for drive 8 were for my Cruzer memory stick which had errors on it.

The card reader connected to the system is a Belkin USB card Reader model: F4U003 I have been in contact with Belkin regarding the error relating to the card reader and they have informed that they are not making any drivers for it to fully support Windows 8. Although event viewer is showing errors / warnings for it the device still seems to work okay.

Also just wondering if you have been able to take a look at the logs that I posted in post #17 ? As the logs in that post are still showing that no one has viewed them.

Thanks for your continued help

I viewed the logs in post # 17 - as you can see I've quoted a log entry from 16 January

The last log entry in the admin.zip file is from 1/26/2013 11:25:54
The last log entry in the EventSys.txt is from Date: 2013-01-26T16:24:12.601
The last log entry in the EventApp.txt is from Date: 2013-01-26T16:15:32.151

I have no clue as to why it says 0 views - I looked at it.
