Solved Bsod - "attempted_execute_of_non_executed memory"

Hi all,

When my notebook is running on battery and I plug-in the charger or when the charger is plugged-in and I want to run on battery and unplugged it, it crashed with a BSOD "ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NON_EXECUTED MEMORY".''

The same behavior can be observed when I try to change the brightness of the display - the notebook crashes with the same BSOD. And it happens when I try to change the brightness from the keyboard (Fn+F4-F5).

In Control Panel I am able to change the brightness and the PC don`t crash.

The drivers are up to date. Windows update is turned off.

The OS is Windows 8 Enterprise x64, downloaded from MSDN.

I attached logs from the System Tab under Windows Logs in Event Viewer and minidumps files.

Also I can provide any further information if needed.

Nearly all the dumps blame your video drivers, with a smattering of hardware errors. Could be BIOS (yours dates from 2010) or could be the software used to control the Fn keys (from Dell)

Less likely (IMO) are the video drivers and the video hardware - as long as you are using Win8 video drivers

I'm late for work, but I'll try to get to the un-researched drivers (listed below) right after I get home this afternoon (8 - 12 hours from now).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

This sounds strange because I didn`t change any settings or services in order to optimize performance or something like that.

And I can assure you that my Windows copy was downloaded from MSDN (from my account) and activated with a MSDN key, so it is not a pirated copy.

Your BIOS dates from 2010. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

The strange behavior is a sign that something's not right. Since you didn't do it, then it's a clue for our troubleshooting. Don't know where it'll lead us, but it's important to know.

In this case, I suspect that it's pointing us at a hardware problem - but I can't be sure until all the updates are done. But, you can start the hardware diagnostics anyway - that way you'll have a head start on them if they're needed. They're listed here: Hardware Diagnostics I'd suggest starting with the video stuff first, then with the memory stuff, and then the rest of the tests (because some involve memory even if they don't seem so - such as the hard drive and the CPU).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I will update all drivers that you listed and check if the issue will be resolved. If the issue persists and there are no hardware errors in the diagnostics maybe I will get back to Win7 rather than flashing the BIOS....
