This is a low priority problem. It is however a problem, and problems need to be solved. After buying a copy of windows 8, I have ran into something that I had not ran into in a long long time. With windows 7 I can't even remember getting a single blue screen. Windows 8 however is a new OS.

Anyways this is i believe my third blue screen in the last 2-3 months. They all happen while I am multitasking so I can't really nail it down. I'm positive it's not a overheating issue, there is plenty of air ventilating. I know BSOD are know to happen on laptops while gaming for long periods of time. Also I was not gaming when this occured, I do a lot of gaming.

Programs that I always have open, Outlook 2010, Zune Software(playing my music), Internet Explorer, and file explorer, i tend to have about 6 different folders open at once. The last one happen today 1/7/2013 at about 2:05AM.

I consider my issue to be a low priority compared to the other users around here who seem to have BSOD multiple times a day. Any hint to what may be causing this, i know my hardware is old so maybe it's a sign that my hardware may die any light on this subject would be appreciated.

Well I just got 1 more BSOD, I am a bit of a disbelief that my system, my computer would get a BSOD so soon.
I was watching an episode of Smallville using Media Player Classic, I had set my graphics to send the video to my HD plasma TV, after I finished watching TV, I decided to go back to my duo monitor preset that I have setup using AMD Vision Engine Control. As soon as I did that blue screen. I am a bit unsatisfied with myself at my failure to have a stable system.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I strongly suspect that this hold true for Win8 systems also.
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

The memory dumps blame your ATI drivers also, so this should also take care of fixing that problem. If the BSOD's continue, please post back so we can have a look at the new memory dumps.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Sadly there is no update on the bios by my manufacturer; It’s to be expected from and old system.
BIOS Type:
AMI
BIOS Date:
August 6th, 2008
BIOS ID:
7B3P091G
BIOS OEM:
7B3P091G
Chipset:
AMD 9600 rev 0
SuperIO:
Unknown
Manufacturer:
Gateway
Motherboard:
DX4200-09
This is the information I did find though.

As far as the hard drives go, yes I have three of them.
HDD1: WDC WD800AAJS-22L7A0 ATA Device, couldn’t find powerconsumption. It’s a low end blue series I am going to assume 5 – 10 wattageconsumption.
HDD2: WD6400AAKS-22A7B2 ATA Device Also don’t know it’s a WDCaviar blue series 640GBs.
HDD3: WD1001FALS-00J7B0 ATA Device this is a black seriesalso don’t know. I will make an average estimate that my power consumption withall of them are around 20-30.
Power supply Antec 550 from 11-23-2009, wow it’s almostgoing on 4 years J Iknew I could trust Antec.
I have uninstalled Daemon Tools, Do you know of areplacement? If not I have a feeling I will have to reinstall and uninstall itin the future multiple times. Windows 8 can do ISO but there were other filesthat windows 8 could not mount and Daemon could. I was able to uninstall but Idid not feel comfortable with the links or downloads you provided me with. Ifyou could guide me more through the step and what it will do I will gladlyfollow. I tried the manual procedure but I failed to find SPTD on the registryentries.
Damon tools has been a recently installed software and afterI installed it within a week from each other I did get two blue screens. In my previous post I mention that afterswitching my presets I got a BLUE SCREEN

AMD Overdrive is enabled because I use it to monitormy fans, cpu, gpu and temperatures. It’s part of the software suite, I justcheck it’s now uncheck no overclocking has been done either. I am a bitreluctant to uninstall Vision Engine Control but I will if I must. My reasonbeing is my preset setups that I use. I have 4 presets which do the following1: Send image to TV only(for movies), 2 send image to a single monitor only forgaming in ultra,3 send image to both monitors for work, and 4 send image toboth monitors and threat them as a single monitor with eyefinity. Will I losethis functionality? If so how do I work around it? IF no workaround for testingpurposes how do I backup my presets?
I went to devicemanager and went to view > show hidden devices. Then I could not find theNon-Plug and Play section. So I went one by one in search for AODDriver entrycouldn’t find it
Agere Soft Modem was done via Windows Update, I have no needfor it so I uninstall it from add and remove.
Vx1000.sys is my webcam I am using a windows 7 64 bitdriver. I uninstalled like the software related to that. Microsoft Lifecam 3.22
Logitech Driving Wheel was also uninstall, although I mayneed it again ….
Npf.sys I don’t know what program is link to this, can youplease guide me?

Yk63x64.sys that’s part of my Ethernet controller which I need.
aswnet.sys firewall core drive from avast.
I am sorry that I did not follow through yourinstructions but why can’t I keep engine control center? It’s useful because ithelps me manage my monitors and set them up in eyefinity mode. I will do everythingelse though.

On a side note i want to learn and better myself I may get into analyzing blue screens how long did it take you to learn ? Months, Weeks, Days? Thanks for looking into this for me

Although a bit low in wattage, it's a good PSU. It depends on what other stuff (that consumes power) that you have connected to the system. Also, as they get older they tend to get crankier. If you have any doubts, simply unplug some of the other power consuming stuff to see if that lessens the frequency of the BSOD's.

If you need the stuff that I suggested that you uninstall - I'd suggest that you uninstall it one at a time to see which one stops the BSOD's. It's not as fast as if you did all the suggestions tho'. Another method is to uninstall all, verify that the BSOD's have stopped, then re-install one at a time - testing to see which one causes the BSOD's.

The point here being, that if these things are causing BSOD's - what good are they to you?
My suggestions are just temporary measures - you can install whatever you like after we've stopped the BSOD's

There are 3 things that we consider when trying the fix BSOD's
- 3rd party drivers/programs (the most common reason by far)
- hardware problems
- Windows problems (fairly uncommon)

So, we try to fix all known 3rd party problems by uninstalling/updating to known versions without problems. Once all that is done, if the problem still exists, we assume a hardware problem.

This is your system and your choice what to do/not to do. I will continue to help, but there will come a point where I will have to say - "You haven't done what I've asked, so I can no longer help you." I will not do this unless we're not making any forward progress. If we skip the rest of the 3rd party stuff, the next step is hardware diagnostics/stripdown (start with these Hardware Diagnostics ) - and the step after that is to attempt to fix Windows (SFC.EXE/Startup Repair/System Restore/Refresh/Reset/Backup, Wipe, and Reinstall of Windows).

Good luck to you.

I have removed everything that you have mention but my Engine Control driver. At this point do we just work for a long period of time and see if it returns?

Here's what I have on npf.sys: Driver Reference Table - NPF.SYS
It's a component used in several programs, so I'd start looking at any internet aware programs for starters.
Don't spend a bunch of time on this as (if you fix the other stuff) it may not prove to be a problem.

Wait for a week to see if the BSOD's come back. If not, then it's probably solved.

I was watching a movie on Media Player Classic, *(told Engine Control to send image to Panasonic Plasma)
I finish watching it I tell engine control to send it back to my 2 desktop monitors in regular 1440 x 900 mode not eyefinity mode 2880 by 900.
As soon as I tell it to do that it blue screens I been learning a bit on how to read and open .dmp files. In fact I been reading my files. It has came to my conclusion that it must be either Media Player Classic or AMD graphics drivers.
Anyways I know you been around longer and have seen this happen, besides installing on driver along without control center any ideas on how to fix this?

Tomorrow I plan to download the drivers(full software suite).
Go to safe mode uninstall all AMD software.
Reboot.
Reinstall the drivers I downloaded.
and test again.

I will upload my new .dmp can you do a quick check to see if the problem is not related to Media Player Classic or something else.
At the moment I understand AMD software suite is to blame.
This can be fix! I just don't know how... after all some people have AMD cards and they don't have problems with BSoD related to atikmdag.sys
