BSOD almost every 60 minutes sharp

    Hi everybody,

happy new year! and to start things off I have I fresh problem!

I thought about giving windows 8 a go on my new build system, and having installed the Intel RSTe raid drivers and all the other latest versions of drivers I could find, it is giving me BSOD's every hour, especially when idle.
When I'm active on the PC it crashes less and more random, but being idle, it crashes on an hourly basis, almost every 60 minutes. It seems related to the storport.sys driver and probably Intel's as well, but it looks like some kind of process is kicked off after 60min no user response.
I also tried disabling every component on the motherboard as SATA controllers, Firewire controllers that are not used etc. , all to no avail....
So, as a last resort I switched on verifier.exe and minidumps so I hope you guys can help me further analyze this issue.

    Many Thanks, Dennis

Your minidumps do seem to be pointing to the driver: iaStorA.sys as the source of the BSODs. If you have not yet done so update your motherboard/chipset drivers from your manufacturers website to windows 8 64bit versions:

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS SABERTOOTH X79

Make sure you also have all the latest Windows 8 updates.

I have also found a few drivers you might consider updating or un-installing/removing if un-needed:

    SiUSBXp.sys & SiLib.sys - Silicone Labs USBXpress Development Kit: Driver Reference Table - SiUSBXp.sys
WinRing0x64.sys - many different programs that center around the using of the WinRing libraries (RealTemp, Corsair Link2, etc): Driver Reference Table - WinRing0x64.sys
ASUSFILTER.sys - ASUS USB Hub filter driver: Driver Reference Table - ASUSFILTER.sys

    hi milw0rm,

I updated to the latest available Intel drivers, 3.5.1096 from the Intel website, the same as on the Asus site.
Thanks for the tips on the silicone labs, will update those too.
Also updates intel LAN drivers, checked the latest Lan firmware, same for the SSD but nothing seems to help.
One thing that puzzles me is the 60 minute 'timer', something seems to be kicked off every hour if there's no user interaction.

sorry I can't help you further, hopefully the updates will help... looking at the forum it seems a lot of people have been having problems with SSD and Windows 8 right now even after updates... perhaps someone with more expertise can help you further if it's not resolved...

    it did help
it got me digging into the usb drivers specifically the ones you mentioned.
They come together with the Corsair link software, and looking into this package I found out it is not supported on windows8
It installed and worked perfectly, and did not mention anything on Win8 support, but now that I've uninstalled it, windows no longer crashes.
