Hey all!

So today I've experienced my very first BSOD on Windows 8. It occurred right after I chose to shut down my PC. There are no drivers or updates (except the daily definition updates for Windows Defender) that I have installed the past days. I really want to know what has caused this BSOD since my PC ran perfectly since its first use :(

Here's the info and the file that I had to upload:

Files that describe the problem:
122812-18656-01.dmp
sysdata.xml
MEMORY.DMP
WERInternalMetadata.xml

BCCode: 50
BCP1: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFD0
BCP2: 0000000000000001
BCP3: FFFFF801540E0E63
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_2_9200
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

Hope you guys can help me out with this.

Thanks in advance,

John

Your dumpfile indicated that you are having a faulty Driver namely: win32k.sys

  1. Open command prompt as admin and type: sfc /scannow to fix your system file if corrupted
  2. Again from command prompt, type chkdsk /f C: <=== assuming C: is your boot drive
  3. Run memory test from Control Panel->Administrative Tools -> Memory Diagnostic

Thanks for the help!

So I did the sfc /scannow and it repaired the following files:

CSI 000006fc [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
CSI 000006fd [SR] Repairing corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:16{8}]"mfds.dll" from store

CSI 00000701 [SR] Repairing corrupted file [ml:48{24},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\SysWOW64"\[l:16{8}]"mfds.dll" from store

Do these files have anything to do with win32k.sys? A win32k.sys crash sounds like a serious problem to me :S

Also, chkdsk and the Memory Diagnostic didn't find any errors.

My guess is yes, those dll file (Dynamic Link Library) contain all the common functions and are being shared with different programs & processes within Windows so if they are corrupted, they would cause problems. I think your machine should be OK now.

I sure hope so. So I guess the win32k.sys is a Windows driver right? Not some third party driver.

Thanks again for your help!
