i got this very weird problem and have been researching it for the longest time. i probably found the most relevant info on this forum, so i thought it might be worth a shot to ask here. it is very similar to the thread here : https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/6044-windows-8-64bit-reboot-wake-sleep-2.html

basically
, there's no issue with my rig, other than SLEEPing. when i let the com sleep (be it manual or after 10mins idle), and upon resume (doesn't matter whether it's by keyboard/mouse/power button), it runs for 2seconds, switches off, then reboots itself (which would of course present itself as a failed shutdown because it loses power during that brief period).

i was previously using win7 x64 and had exactly the same problem out of the blue. then, i did a clean reformat and installed win8 pro. same problem still haunts me.i heard it's a device driver problem, but i just can't nail which is it. i have attached the relevant dump files here. W8.zip

hope a kind soul can help me to analyze this issue.

thank you so much!

i had this problem, found out it was my RAM, set at the wrong frequency, ran it in SLI mode for about 3 years before it clicked that the motherboard doesn't support 1066mhz in dual channel mode, dropped the frequency down to 800mhz and not a single issue since.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I suspect that it may also be causing issues on Win8.
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

See if there's a MEMORY.dmp file in C:\Windows - let us know if you find it (check the date also).

hi, i didn't have daemon tools installed before the problem occurred and it still happened.

in any case i followed your instructions to clean it up, still the same issue.

there's no memory.dmp file unfortunately :(

any other clue?

Please remove Daemon Tools as I suggested earlier. It still shows up in your MSINFO32 file as being installed. Just because there wasn't a problem earlier doesn't mean there isn't a problem now. If this was the case, nothing would ever break!

FWIW - updating other programs can affect the operation of Daemon Tools as can different Windows Updates. My troubleshooting procedure relies upon removing all KNOWN problem causing drivers before moving on to other troubleshooting.

SSD's get cranky with older storage controller drivers (anything not from 2012). Also, ensure that the SSD has the latest firmware installed.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
29 May 2012 - The frequency of BSOD's with SSD's seems to have been decreasing over the last several months. It may be approaching time to re-evaluate my stand on their suitability for use in production systems.
10 Nov 2012 - I'm seeing an upswing in SSD errors - but most appear due to older storage controller drivers. I strongly suggest NOT using storage controller drivers that don't date from 2012 (if none are available, don't connect an SSD to that controller)

Please test all hard drives on the system with these free tools (SSD not included): Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
Errors in event viewer referring to HDD corruption.
Use whatever tools that you have available for the SSD. Also, please run chkdsk /r /f (from an elevated (Run as Administrator) Command Prompt) on the SSD and let us know the results.

Hi,

this is odd - because I really did reformat my Windows boot drive, aka the SSD which contained Daemon tools - hence it shouldn't appear again.

i have also updated ssd firmware to latest version, all controllers to latest versions, ram @ default speed, checked integrity of SSDs and HDDs and they are all fine.

what gives?

ok, there's new development.

when i tried installing new drivers for my Asus Xonar DG soundcard, it always hangs halfway when installing (right before it hanged, there was a brief prompt, seems to ask permission for digitally signed drivers but it was too fast for me to catch it).

the same happens even if i grab custom-drivers (from brainbit).

that is one issue.

second issue - i can't seem to restart reliably and expect to come into windows successfully. sometimes, it gets stuck in this restart loop, saying "system_service_exception" and needs to restart. after restart, it attempts auto repair and wants me to restore ( which i did not ), and then i just keep redoing this all over again, loading bios defaults or tweaking settings here and there just to get into windows. there is no one fixed package of settings that work reliably. i don't know why.

just got to know that these two issues are probably separate from the current one i am trying to resolve. here's the dump files again.

Sorry for the delay in responding. For some reason I haven't seen a notification that you responded.

Both memory dumps blame your Intel graphics drivers. Please:
- download a fresh copy of the latest Win8 compatible version from Intel Download Center
- uninstall the current graphics software/drivers
- install the freshly downloaded copy
- monitor for further BSOD's

Also, please remove the current Razer drivers from your system by uninstalling the Razer software. One of these drivers dates from 2005 and is probably not compatible with Win8.

Finally, please remove the Western Digital software. The version that you have (2008 drivers) often causes problems/BSOD's on newer systems.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi,

I'm not really sure how the WD software came about - the only WD software i downloaded was the diagnostic utility used to test whether my HDDs were in good condition, and it did pass the extended tests.

where should i uninstall that SAM WDM driver then?

as for the Razer drivers, i'm pretty sure they are the latest i can find (v6.02), on Razer official site. however, i don't really have much use for it, so i'll just uninstall them anyway.

Uninstall the SAM driver and the Razer drivers - at least to test them.
If you find that you can't live without them, then reinstall them - then if your problems start up again you'll know what's causing it.

Noticed you're running a beta BIOS, F19g.
Never a good idea to run beta BIOS, switch to your secondary BIOS if it is non-beta.
You can flash your BIOS if your system is stable enough, you're sure it won't crash during the flash.
Only use the USB stick method, never use the internet method.
If you have any questions about flashing your BIOS, ask before starting. A bad flash can brick your system.

After usasma gets your drivers cleaned up, update your system specs.
You can use this app to find them: Speccy Free System information Utility
Then enter them in the 'My System Specs' drop box at the lower left of any of your posts.

Upload your crash files here, follow this tutorial.
How to Upload and Post a Screenshot and File in Eight Forums

First try changing the hard disk sleep time to a high number so it won't ever sleep.
Control Panel > Power Options > Change When the Computer Sleeps > Change Advanced Power Settings >
Expand 'Hard disk', then 'Turn off hard disk after', change time to sleep.

If the above doesn't work, sleep crashes possibly can be stopped by disabling Hybrid Sleep.
Control Panel > Power Options > Change When the Computer Sleeps > Change Advanced Power Settings >
Expand 'Sleep', then 'Allow hybrid sleep', click on 'Setting' and change to 'Off'.
Some systems are known to crash when this is turned on.
