I’ve recently upgraded to Windows 8 on my Dell Studio 1558, and in general, I love it. It’s faster, cleaner and I’m enjoying the new interface.
But often when I reboot my computer, or Windows updates, something gets corrupted across the system which results in several constant and different problems. I don’t understand how they are related, but they seem to occur simultaneously. I can solve each problem independently, but then they all go wrong again together, which is why I'm posting here.
Three problems:
1. My graphics cards settings get corrupted (if I try to adjust the brightness of the monitor, I get a blue screen error immediately. I can resolve the problem by disabling then reenabling the graphics card in the Device Manager.) I’m using the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series, version 8.982.10.8000.
2. My libraries are disabled. (I don’t understand why, but when this happens my Documents, Pictures etc libraries are disassociated from their folders and so I get constant error messages. I can recreate the Libraries and relink them to their folders, and they work fine again until the system resets itself again.
3. My Blackberry no longer syncs or connects to the Internet. (I can resolve this by reinstalling the Blackberry Desktop Software, but it becomes disabled again once the system resets.)
And there's a fourth thing: something goes wrong with the Print Spooler. I haven’t quite understood the logic of this problem, it seems to work intermittently, so I’m not sure if it’s related to the first three. I’m using an HP Laserjet M1005. The scanner works fine, but sometimes it refuses to print documents.
What’s going on here? Is it a problem with drivers? Then why do the libraries reset? Can you help here? Would really appreciate any wisdom you guys can shed.
