I just did a fresh install of win8 and I am getting these errors when running XBMC. I was hoping that someone here could help diagnose the issue. I only use this pc for an htpc, so I don't run other apps on there to know if it is only a problem with xbmc eden.

Thanks

Reduce the clock speed of your cpu and/or bus. Underclock if necessary. Make sure your cpu and chipset temperatures are ok.

sorry, if you could possibly elaborate on what makes you think this i would appreciate it. I want to understand that it is clearly not a driver issue conflict or something? I thought maybe with the new OS that some drivers for an older motherboard might be causing the issues. I have never inspected a BSOD or dmp file before until today. While multiple dumps where uploaded, i believe 4 of the 5 were from the same cause. One was different. What are an acceptable range for cpu temps?

I do run the same system with linux xbmc currently. I also have tried win7 with it as well, neither of which exhibit any OS related issue. It has only been since I have started running win8 which i put on just yesterday.

Thats for the help.

If your bios allows you to change your clock speed, just test whether is works to alleviate your problem. The errors do indicate hardware issues. I did not see a distinct fifth minidump, they were all the same. You could try to run driver verifier and windows updates.

I installed speedfan to get an idea of my cpu temps. That said my gpu temps appear to be around 50c when sitting at the desktop and nothing else is running. Once I started XBMC, I noticed that they rose up to 56c at which point I was modifying this post and performance seemed rather slow. Shortly after the pc showed the bsod.

That said, my cpu shows temps around 34C which seem reasonable.Maybe my GPU is overheating causing the system to halt. My GPU is a NVIDIA 9300 that is integrated with my motherboard asus P5N7A-VM

Can you just reduce your clock speed and see if your system is rock stable then?

Reducing your clock speed is not only beneficial for stability at high temperatures.

Yes i will definitely try. I looked in the bios but i wasnt exactly sure what to change there. I will have to investigate further on how to do that exactly.

I did see a tip on XBMC forums about changing the 'windowed' mode of the application. Once i did do that, the app did stay running without any crashes. While Im sure your are correct about heat and slowing down the cpu i do think it is something with XBMC that is causing windows to crash. When I am not running that software the pc doesnt have any issues. If i run xbmc, within mins it will crash
